The Wattisfield track looked in prime condition as the Diss MCC prepared the track remarkably well considering the hot weather before and during the meeting.

Coming into round 3, the Expert championship was led by Top Grimshaw, who had gone a perfect 6 wins from 6 so far, but would he be able to continue that great run? He started the day on top with pole position in qualifying and would have first gate pick going into the 3 championship races. As always, the Expert line-up was stacked with talent, and it was sure to be a fierce and fiery day of racing.

Expert race one would see Shaun Southgate and Tom Grimshaw both at the front early on; the latter would make the pass stick and set out on running away with the race. Travis Steels again showed his starting prowess as he was firmly inside the top 5 alongside Callum Murfitt and Tony Craig. Grimshaw picked his lines well and made his way past the backmarkers as Southgate kept the leader in his sights but never close enough to make the move. Grimshaw would take the victory ahead of Southgate in second with a solid ride. In third was Travis Steels with Murfitt in fourth. Max Broadbelt would pass Craig for fifth place.

In Race Two, it was Tom Grimshaw who would take the holeshot, and that was the last the rest of the pack would see of him, as he checked out and carried on his unbeaten run to take the win by 50 seconds! Luke Parker made a cracking start and remained strong throughout the race to take second place ahead of Broadbelt in third and Jake Rackham in fourth. Fifth place would go to Travis Steels. Southgate finished sixth after falling on the first turn.

The final Expert race got underway, and it was again Grimshaw that took the holeshot with his starts dialled in all afternoon long. Luke Parker also gated well but would see Steels go past, and then eventually Broadbelt followed suit in the battle for the overall podium. Grimshaw asserted his dominance, however, and after another top performance, took his third race win of the day. Second place went to Travis Steels, and Broadbelt finished in third. Jake Rackham came home in fourth and Parker capped a consistent day to finish fifth.

The overall in the Expert class would go to Tom Grimshaw with a perfect 75 points and extends his points lead in the championship standings. In second was Travis Steels with 58 points and in third was Max Broadbelt with 56 points.

In the Junior Championship, points leader Craig Down took 3 fine race wins for 75 points. Second place went to Caden Tomlin with 58 points, and after some less than ideal starts, he made his way through the pack well. On the third step of the podium was George Bennett with 3 solid rides and ending with 58 points but losing out on second on countback.

In Support Group B, it was Mark Goodson to take the honours with a 1-1-4 ahead of Aidan Darling in second with a 3-3-2. In third place was Aaron Smith with a 4-4-1.

In Support Group C, Dale Herod won the overall with a 1-2-1 ahead of Andrew Cattermole in second with a 2-1-2. In third was Shaun Tacey with a 3-3-5.

The Diss MCC would like to thank all officials, marshals and medics who worked tirelessly in the relentless heat to make the meeting run smoothly.

The Next Meeting at Wattisfield is the ever-popular Southside evening meeting, which takes place on Wednesday 24th of June with the first race underway at 6pm!
