ACU Motocross Commission Director Steve McCauley and Championship Series Director Colin Hambridge have confirmed that their goal in MXGB Women’s Championship is to run fully standalone race for 2026. This reflects a shared commitment to delivering a competitive and sustainable championship, with participation key to supporting standalone races.

This milestone mirrors the structure used in FIM Europe and MXGP Women’s events, where female competitors benefit from dedicated standalone races. The decision reinforces the ACU’s and the championship promoters’ commitment to increasing female participation in motocross and providing a stronger pathway for women progressing through the sport. Standalone races will run where participation levels support competitive and sustainable grids, with riders and organisers working together to grow the championship.
The MXGB Women’s Championship is the only official British women’s motocross championship recognised by the FIM. The winner of the ACU MXGB Women’s Championship is the only officially recognised British Women’s Motocross Champion under FIM, making this series the exclusive route to FIM Europe and FIM World Championship competition.

Steve McCauley, ACU Motocross Commission Director, said: “As Director of the ACU Motocross Commission, I am delighted not only personally but also on behalf of my Commission at the progress that we have made recently in relation to Women in Motorcycle Sport. Not only are we seeing more Women competing, we now have more Female Officials than ever before in our history. In 2025, alongside Colin and his fantastic team, we ran a very successful MXGBW Championship. Due to the low number, we had to run the girls alongside the MXY2 class; however, for 2026, everyone involved is working very hard to give the Women their own standalone races at every single round. I’m sure that this is achievable, and we will set the bar very low in order to make this happen. I relish the prospect of full gates in years to come, but for now, we must focus on getting the message out there to our female riders that we are serious, committed and determined to give everything we can to make this an enjoyable and successful series that everyone will wish to be a part of. We will leave no stone unturned and work tirelessly in our pursuit of rebuilding absolute confidence in our series.”

Colin Hambridge, MXGB Championship Director, added: “Having a dedicated women’s class would be a hugely positive step for both the riders and the championship. Racing alongside like-minded competitors would raise the standard of competition, create closer and more exciting racing, and deliver a more engaging spectacle for spectators. I’m confident that supporters and sponsors of women’s racing would also strongly welcome this development. With sufficient registrations and backing, I hope the championship can secure the support needed to make this a reality.”

Matthew Edwards-Wear, CEO of Auto Cycle Union: “As the national governing body of motorcycle sport in the UK, the ACU is immensely proud to support the ACU Women’s Motocross British Championship. The growth of women’s participation is not only vital to the future of our sport, but it also reflects the passion, talent, and determination of the riders who continue to push boundaries. We are committed to creating opportunities, breaking down barriers, and encouraging more women to discover the excitement and community that motorcycle sport has to offer and to enable the pathways they need to succeed at every level. We look forward to inspiring the next generation of riders and building a more inclusive future for motorcycle sport.”
The MXGB Women’s Championship will continue to run on the same weekends as the MXGB Youth & Clubman Championships, ensuring a vibrant, action-packed environment at every round and offering fans, families, and teams a complete weekend of top-level racing.
