Mitchell shows true grit to defy broken nose at MXGB Season Opener at Hawkstone

The 2026 season kicked off for the Worx Total Triumph team at the iconic Hawkstone Park in Shropshire with the first round of the Motul British Motocross Championship.

Confidence was high across the board following our solid off-season preparation.

Qualification saw Calum Mitchell assigned to Group 2 in the heavily contested MX2 class, with around 70 riders vying for just 40 gate spots. Despite some struggles with arm pump, slower riders, and minor mistakes, Calum completed three laps with a best time of 2:16.8, placing him 10th in the group and 20th on the gate for Moto 1.

Moto 1 proved challenging. After a poor start dropping him to 25th by the first corner, Calum fought hard to 12th despite worsening rain and track conditions. Unfortunately, a fall coming down Hawkstone Hill and a subsequent rock strike to his face broke his nose and filled his goggles with blood. He was forced to retire and attend the medical centre, resulting in a DNF.

Determined as ever, Calum lined up for Moto 2 with a taped-up nose. Battling terrible conditions on a drastically deteriorated track, he held a top 10 position for much of the race and finished 13th. This effort earned him 17th overall for the day.

A tough start to the season, but a true testament to Calum’s grit and the team’s resilience. We’ll regroup and push forward stronger for round two.

Calum Mitchell: “Round 1 out the way. As you’ve already heard my nose has been confirmed broken and has been manipulated and glued back up. Time to get to work on feeling more comfortable and hopefully with that I can race the way I know I can. This position is something I’ve been in before so I’m not worried See you at round 2.“
