May the Ford be with you! UK Evo MX Two Dayer – Race Report and Results

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the UK Evo Mx series continued with a combined two-day meeting at Ford Nr Chippenham in Wiltshire. Ford is a natural track and with a lot of rain falling prior to the event this had worked wonders and the track was to produce some of the best racing in this year’s series. As with other events at the present, no spectators could attend the event and restrictions were enforced with social distancing.

Report and Images by Dave Rich

In the Evo 125 class it was John May who was triumphant over the two days notching up 5 wins out of the 6 races with Shane Holmes denying him a clean sweep winning the first race on the Sunday. Holmes was looking good in the second race on Sunday, but a mechanical fault was to put an end to his day, and he did not take part in the last race. Ben Millward showed plenty of speed and took second overall with Tom Moore an excellent third overall.

Jamie Skuse was dominant in the Evo 250 class

The Evo 250 class saw a dominant weekend of riding by Jamie Skuse on his CR250 who once he hit the front raced away to take a clean sweep of wins with Brett Hillman finishing second to Jamie in all 6 races to take second overall and James Kensington taking third overall with six third place finishes.

James Price heads a combined Evo 250/500 race

In the Evo 500 class it was a battle royal on both days between the top two Nicky Jones on the CR500 and KX500 of James Price who were tying on the same points at the end of the weekend, but it was Jones who was declared the overall winner by virtue of winning the last race by literally two hundredths of a second with Alex Wallis taking a commendable third overall.

Ashley Greedy styling it at Ford in the Super Evo under 45 class

The under 45 Super Evo class was stacked with talent which included Welshman Glen Phillips who was making a return to motocross and he was to show that he had still got what it takes. This class was to produce some of the best racing of the weekend and included a battle royal between Welshman Ashley Greedy and young up and coming star Tom Grimshaw who is more at home on a modern bike. Tom was racing for the first time a project bike which had been built through the lockdown a YZ250 Yamaha and he was soon to get to grips with it, but it was Greedy who had the better of first days racing taking two of the three races with Tom winning the other one which gave Greedy a 6 points advantage going in to day 2 where Greedy had no answer to Grimshaw as he was to win all three races and with it claimed the overall from Greedy who took second with Jordan Carter taking third overall by three points from Phillips who took an excellent fourth overall.

Tom Grimshaw punches the air in delight on his way to taking the overall

In the Super Evo over 45’s it was Laurence Wiltshire who was to take the overall even though he had a Dnf in one race, but by winning the other five races he took the overall by literally one point from Steve Wells with Paul Willis taking third overall.

The Vets over 45 class saw some excellent racing on the Saturday with Brian Wheeler taking all three race wins, but the battle was going on behind him between Dean Warren and the big 500 Ktm of former GP rider Mervyn Anstie who was in attendance with Warren finishing 2nd to Wheeler in two of the races to Anstie’s one. Wheeler won the opening race on the Sunday, but a mistake in the second race left him mid pack and he had to claw his way back through the field. Anstie was to win this one with Warren a close second, but another mistake from Wheeler hampered his progress and he eventually finished 4th behind Kelvin Tatum, but at the end of the day it was Wheeler who took the overall from Anstie with Warren just two points adrift taking third overall.

Mervyn Anstie giving his all in the Vets Evo over 45 class

The 4-Stroke under 50 Twinshock class overall went to George Wolff even though he only won one race on the Saturday he was unbeaten on Sunday.

In the 4-Stroke Over 50 Twinshock class there was three wins for Martin Coleman on the Saturday with Steve Davey winning all three races on the Sunday, but with both riders only competing on one day the overall was not awarded.

Lewis Trickett was dominant in the Twinshock under 50’s class

In the Twinshock under 50’s class there was no stopping Lewis Trickett on the PDF Triumph who notched up a hattrick of wins on both days with Matthew Nash taking second overall ahead of Richard Benham who finished third overall.

In the Twinshock over 50’s the question was asked could anyone beat Terry House on the 490 Maico, well the answer was no as Terry was to win all 6 races, nearest to him was Bryan Withers who did take the lead from House in the second race momentarily on Sunday, but House stayed with him and regained the lead a lap later and from there went on untroubled. House took the overall from withers with Chris Koch taking third overall.

In the Pre 83 125 class there was a dominant display from George Gough on the Saturday with him winning all three races, but Sundays races were all won by Stuart Spalding who was to take the overall from John Davis with Jordan Hands taking third overall.

The Modern 2-Stroke under 50’s class saw Tony Griffiths take the overall winning 4 of the 6 races with Tom Gilbert taking second overall and winning the last race with the other race win going to Matthew Bath who ended the day third overall.

In the Modern 2-Stroke over 50’s class saw Chris Pritchett take the overall with Andrew Batten taking 2nd and Darren Short third.
