May makes Hay at Marshfield! 2022 UK Evo MX Championship Round 6 – Race Report & Results

Last Sunday round 6 of the Uk Evo Mx Championship took place at Marshfield in Wiltshire. Originally this event was going to be a two-day meeting, but the team decided due to the very hot weather recently that they would only run one day on the Sunday. The track had a lot of water put on it during Saturday and had been prepped to perfection which was to produce some good racing. Entries for the event were not quite as good as other rounds which was not surprising with many riders deciding not to ride as with the cost of fuel.

Report and Images by Dave Rich

In the Evo 125 class there was a welcome return to racing for local Bristonian John May on his CR125 Honda who in the opening race was involved in a good tussle with fellow CR125 rider Kristian Hutchings who did lead for several laps after passing May after the opening lap before May came on strong on the last couple of laps and took over at the front and from there went on to take the chequered flag from Hutchings who was a close second with John Butler taking third. In the second moto again, it was May who led early doors before Hutchings took over, but just as in the opening race May waited his time and piled on the pressure with two laps remaining and found away pass and went on to take the win with Hutchings again second and Butler third. In the last race this time it was Hutchings from the off with the early lead, but this was short-lived as by the end of the second lap May was to take over at the front and was to go on to make it a clean sweep of wins with Hutchings notching up second again and Butler third.

No 116 Dean Warren and No 739 Danny Blakeley battling it out in the Vets Over 45 Evo class

In the Evo 250 class there was no stopping the CR250 Honda with Jamie Skuse onboard who took a convincing hattrick of wins, but there were some good battles behind him between James Kensington, Dean Stutt and Kyle Proctor with Kensington eventually taking second overall ahead of Proctor who took third overall.

In the Evo 500 class it was the KX Kawasaki of James Price who was triumphant in all three races with a hat trick of wins with Alex Wallis and Mitchell Griffin ending the day tied on points but by virtue of the last race result second overall was to go to Wallis.

The Super Evo Under 40’s class saw some of the best racing of the day, especially between the two CR500’s of Tom Gilbert and Oliver Weeks with Gilbert winning the opening two races, but in the last race Weeks was to shine and held off Gilbert for several laps to take the win, but it was Gilbert who took the overall from Weeks with Gary Brown taking a well deserved third overall, where as in the Over 40’s Super Evo class two wins and a third was to give John Butler on his CR250 the overall with Luke Dewey who was consistant in all three races taking second overall and Max Hendy took third overall, Nathan Davies had a second in the opening race and took the win in the last race, but unfortunately for Nathan a mistake in the second moto was to cost him a podium place and he eventually finished fourth overall.

In the Super Evo Over 50’s class the day belonged to Mark McGill who was to show his class in all three races taking the overall with Gavin Hickman ending the day with a 4 2 2 scorecard to give him second overall and third overall went to Ray Chivers who put together three good rides.

James Reeves giving his all ion the Twinshock Under 50’s class

In the Vets Over 45 class there was some really close racing at the front between yet another couple of KX500 Kawasaki’s of Dean Warren and Danny Blakeley with Warren winning the opening two races from Blakeley, but in the last race Blakeley this time had the better start and he wasn’t going to give that up without a fight and held off Warren in the closing stages to take the win, but it was Warren who took the overall from Blakeley with Martin King on his CR250 with a scorecard of 3 3 4 taking that third spot on the podium.

The Vets Over 60’s class saw that man Martin Coleman on his 510 Husqvarna win the opening two races ahead of Peter Archer on his YZ250 Yamaha, but Coleman was to be beaten in the last race by Archer, but Coleman took the overall from Archer with Graham Challis taking third place overall with a hattrick of third place finishes.

In the Twinshock Under 50’s class there was no stopping Matt Nash who rode to three convincing wins and took the overall from James Reeves who took a hattrick of second places with Phillip Peaster taking third in all three races to give him third overall, whereas in the Over 50’s Twinshocks it was Terry House who took the overall but not without having to work hard in the opening race after getting the holeshot, but was to stall his bike exiting the first corner, but he was soon on it and by the end of the second lap he was at the front and was on his way. Andy Bowles with a 2 2 3 scorecard took second overall by two points from Gary Biddle who took third overall.

In the Modern 2-Stroke Under 50’s class, there was a fine display of riding from Welshman Adam Cook who took the overall with Ben Millward with three consistent rides taking the second spot on the podium with Harry Ridgeway ending the day third overall whereas in the

Over 50’s class Jason Morettes on his YZ250 Yamaha took a hattrick of wins and claimed the overall, but the battle for second overall was to go down to the last race result as both Barry Goodman and Mike Allport were tied on points, and it was Goodman who took second in the race ahead of Allport which was to give Goodman that second spot overall.

In the WME Pre 85 class there was only one winner at the end of the day, and that was Phil Newman who took all three race wins with Samuel Pocock taking second overall with Stuart White third overall.

Gary Brown powered his way to taking third overall in the Super Evo under 40’s cl
