Irish MX racer Jason Meara is recovering from one of the toughest periods of his life, after suffering from an illness that saw him miss the main part of the 2025 season after getting some great results in the early part of the year.
Jason, though, is recovering well and is heading into the 2026 British and Scottish Motocross Championships fully focused on having a great year for him and the Moto Cycle Race Team, with whom he will be with for a fourth year. On top of that he will be racing in the full Arenacross World Tour.
“I was going pillar to post for 3-4 months with a constant dizziness feeling like I was in a washing machine, I couldn’t get answers from doctors, they kept telling me I was fine,” Jason told us. “Every so often, I would start to feel a little better, thinking that I was starting to get better, and then I would go back to square one all over again. After spending a fortune seeing private specialists, I finally figured out I had an inflamed nerve in my ear, which sends the balance/focus signals to your brain, and mine was all off due to the inflamed nerve. But thankfully, there was some light, which I hope is at the end of the tunnel. They referred me to see a vestibular physiotherapist, who is helping me with head and eye movements, which is basically recalibrating the signals to allow me to have steady vision again. I have now had a clear head for about 2 months, and I’m feeling confident that I have put it behind me and am ready to focus on next season.
“For next season, I will ride for the Moto Cycle race team again, and I couldn’t be any happier to head into my 4th year with them. We will have a change of machinery, and I will be jumping back onto a 450 and am focused on having a great year ahead.”
In 2025, Jason finished 8th in the Scottish Motocross Championship in the MX1 class despite missing two rounds and 20th in the British Motocross Championship, even though he only rode in two of the eight rounds.
