Grimshaw steps it up! 2025 ACU Eastern Centre Motocross Championship Round 5 – Report and Results

The Expert Championship at Round 5 of the 2025 ACU Eastern Centre Motocross Championship at Lyng on Sunday would have its own class for its three races, and Sam Nunn went looking to extend his points lead from second place, Luke Benstead, who was unfortunately out due to injury. Returning from a shoulder injury was Tom Grimshaw, and he would no doubt mix things up inside the podium positions for the overall.

In race one of the Expert class, Sam Nunn would take the early lead from local stars Dec Whittle and Calum Mitchell. Further behind Grimshaw and fastest qualifier from the morning, Tom Murphy, were battling inside the top 10, as Nunn set his sights on checking out in the lead. Whittle would make a slight mistake and hand the initiative to the likes of Mitchell and Callum Murfitt, who were holding off Grimshaw for now. Calum Mitchell briefly made his way past Nunn and into the lead but soon fell and dropped back to third. Tom Murphy was going well by the latter part of the race but had a big get off down by the sandpit and would unfortunately DNF and was unable to race any further for the day. Grimshaw would move into second but was too far back to pass Nunn, who took race one victory in fine style.

Grimshaw finished second and Whittle in third, with Mitchell coming home fourth ahead of Bayliss Utting in fifth.

In race two of the expert class, it was Nunn again who was quickest out of the gate with Grimshaw close by on the opening laps. These two would reignite their rivalry from last year and have a close battle during the whole rac,e with Grimshaw making his way into the lead and intending on staying there. Three triumph riders, Whittle, Utting and Mitchell, were all locked in pursuit and fighting inside the top five, but couldn’t put any pressure on the leader, Grimshaw. He would go on to win race two ahead of Nunn in second and Whittle in third, in fourth was Calum Mitchell and in fifth was Bayliss Utting.

The final Expert race of the day kicked into life with Grimshaw leading proceedings early on and put on a top performance at the front of the pack, hitting his lines to perfection and pulling away lap after lap from the rest of the field. Nunn was in second and had his hands full with pressure from behind as Mitchell was putting on a charge. Halfway through the race, Mitchell made the move past Nunn and into second but was just too far back to make any move on Grimshaw, who would see the chequered flag come out to greet him for his second race win of the day. Mitchell finished in second and Nunn in third, ahead of Whittle in fourth and Utting in fifth.

The overall of the Expert class would go to Grimshaw on 72 points, ahead of Nunn with 67 points. In third was Calum Mitchell on 58 points, tied with Declan Whittle, but with a better third race result.

In the Junior Championship clas,s the overall would go to Alfie Geddes-Green with a 4-1-1 and some top riding on the 125cc Yamaha. In second overall was Travis Bixby with a 1-4-2 and some consistent riding all day long. In third was Teddy Hyde with a 2-5-4 finish

In the support ‘B’ class, the overall honours were taken by William Giddings with a 1-2-4 ahead of Henry Crawford in second with a 4-3-2. In third was Joe Scillitoe with a 3-5-6 finish.

The support ‘C’ class overall was taken by Paul Hubbard with results of 4-2-3 ahead of Alfie Self in second with a 8-3-5. In third was Max Monk with a 5-4-6.

In the support ‘D’ class, the overall winner was Andrew Webster with a 1-4-1 ahead of Kian Bassett, who scored a 6-1-2 for the day. In third was Marcus Becque with a 3-2-4 finish.
