Ford Focus! 2022 UK EVO MX Championship Round 2 – Race Report & Results

Back on Sunday 24th April Round 2 of the UK EVO MX Championships took place at the popular venue of Ford in Wiltshire. As with the opening round entries were good in all classes on a track that is natural and was to produce some fast and exhilarating racing.

Report and Images by Dave Rich

In the Evo 125’s there were some good tussles during the day especially in the first two races between the two Cr Honda’s of John May and Jordan Carter with May winning the opening encounter by literally 0.304 of a second and it was much the same in the second moto with May winning this one by just under a second. Carter again was to give chase in the last moto, but a mistake was to drop him back abit which was to ease the pressure of May who went on to make it a clean sweep of wins and the overall with Carter second overall with Daryl Bolter having three consistent rides taking third overall.

The 250 Evo class saw a dominant display of riding from Jamie Skuse on his CR Honda as he was on a mission and recorded the fastest lap time of the day of 1min.45 in the opening race which he won by over 30 seconds from the YZ Yamaha of James Kensington and he was to do the same in the second moto, winning by much the same deficit and in the last moto he was to take the chequered flag and with it the overall by some 45 seconds over Kensington who ended the day with a hattrick of second-place finishes with Kyle Proctor with a scorecard of 3-4-4 taking a well-deserved third overall.

In the Evo 500 class, there was also some top-quality racing which included Terry House in the line up changing from riding in the Twinshocks. George Gough on his KX Kawasaki was to take the overall with a win, a second and a third with House on his 490 Butler Maico taking 2nd overall winning the second and third races but a rear brake problem in the opening race cost him dearly and he only managed seventh and with three consistent rides, third overall went to Paul Edge on his CR Honda.

Jamie Skuse was flying in the Evo 250 class

In the Under 40’s Super Evo class we saw a return to Evo racing for Irishman Graeme Irwin who showed that he is still one to watch as he raced away to take a clean sweep of wins with Oliver Weeks and Gary Brown on their Cr 500 Honda’s taking second and third overall, whereas in the Over 40’s Super Evo class it was the CR 250 Honda of Nathan Davies who took the overall with a hattrick of wins with Martyn Tucker and Luke Dewey ending the day second and third overall and in the Super Evo Over 50’s class it was Jason Morris on the CR 250 Honda who took all three race wins, but the battle for second overall was to go down to the last race as both Steve Wells and Mark McGill were tied on points going into the last race, but it was Wells who finished the race second behind Morris who took second overall and McGill was awarded third overall.

In the Vets Over 45 class the Overall went to Danny Blakeley on his KX 500 Kawasaki who took two wins and a second only to be denied a clean sweep of wins in the last one by Phil Lewis, whereas in the Vets Over 60’s class it was Martin Coleman on his 510 Husqvarna who with two wins and a second took the overall from Dave White who was second to Coleman in the first two races on his 500 Husqvarna but won the last race with Vince Crawley on his KX 250 with a hattrick of third-place finishes taking third overall.

Martin Coleman took the overall in the Evo Over 60’s class

The Twinshock Under 50’s class saw Matt Nash on his CR 250 complete a hattrick of wins to give him the overall, but in the Over 50’s it looked as if Kelvin Tatum was going to run away with it after winning the opening two races, but he was a nonstarter in the last one which was won by Cornishman Mark Roberts who also took second in race 2 to Tatum, but a DNF in the opening race for Roberts who picked up a rear-wheel puncture kept him off the podium at the end of the day and it was Richard Benham with a 2-4-2 scorecard who took the overall from Kevin Butcher and Keith Jones.

In the Modern 2-Stroke Under 50’s class it was Thomas Herbert on his KTM 250 who with a hattrick of wins took the overall and in the Over 50’s class it was the YZ 250 Yamaha of Jason Morettes who with a win and two seconds just took the overall by one point from Rich Vincent with David Ford third overall.
