British Grasstrack and Speedway racer Mickie Simpson is the latest rider to take on our Dirty Dozen questions.

Mickie’s 2025 season was a rollercoaster with a broken femur halting his year, but beforehand, he was crowned the British Under-23 Grasstrack Champion

Dirt Hub: Do you have a Pre-Race playlist you listen to, and if so, name a couple of tracks that are on it?

Mickie: No pre-Race playlist, usually just chill out in the changing rooms, try have a laugh and joke and stay nice and relaxed.

DH: When was the last time you cried?

Mickie: I literally never cry. Last time I was close was in August when I broke my Femur.

DH: What is your favourite inspirational quote?

Mickie: Pressure makes diamonds, but can also burst a pipe – meaning pressure and stress is only wrong if I’m not applying myself right

DH: Do you have any weird suspicions or pre-race rituals?

Mickie: No suspicions or pre-race rituals, the only thing close could be patting the bike after a good race, as if to say good girl to it

DH: What drives you most to get up in the morning and go training?

Mickie: Regardless of racing, I enjoy bettering myself, so running and gym work motivation comes easily.

DH: If you didn’t race, what sport would you play?

Mickie: I enjoy any physical sports alongside racing already. Squash, running, football, etc.

DH: What is your biggest Phobia?

Mickie: I wouldn’t necessarily call it a phobia, butI’m  not a fan one bit of insects/bugs

DH: Who is your biggest sporting idol and why?

Mickie: Tai Woffinden was my idol growing up, since he was British and one of the best in the world.

DH: Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Mickie: In 5 years, as long as I’m still racing my bikes in (speedway) leagues and as much as we can abroad on the long track, I’ll be happy.

DH: What is your all-time favourite movie?

Mickie: Baby Driver – My first engine was named Debora, after one of the main characters

DH: Who has had the biggest impact on your career?

Mickie: All of my sponsors have a huge impact on everything I do, without them I wouldn’t be doing what I am, so I really appreciate every one of them

DH: What is your philosophy on life?

Mickie: I believe that having a smile, laugh, and a joke can solve all problems. The way I approach my problems is more important than the problems themselves.
