Colley claims Grittenham maximum! 2024 UK EVO MX Championship Round 3 – Race Report & Results

Back on the weekend of the 17th & 18th of May round 3 of the 2024 Uk Evo Mx Championships took place at Grittenham in glorious sunshine on both days. Saturday consisted of three blocks of racing on a fast and drying track whereas Sunday which had a further two blocks of racing it was a bit different after water had been put down prior to the start of the day and things were a bit tricky in places to begin with, but never the less there was still some good racing to be seen.

Race Report and Images by Dave Rich

In the Evo 125 class all three races on the Saturday were won by Arron Colley at the end of the day, but making a return from a long injury which was great to see was Neville Bradshaw who was back giving his all and did lead the last race for a while before a problem with the bike ended his day. Colley continued winning on the Sunday and was to take a further two race wins which meant he was unbeaten all weekend and took the overall, second overall went to Kristian Hutchings with Rusty Griffiths.

No 92 Carl Luke chasing No 47 Drew Lane in the Super Evo under 40’s

In the Pre 83 125 there was some good battles all weekend between Matt Nash and Jake Chamberlain with Chamberlain just holding off Nash in the first race on the Sunday to take the win by two seconds which was to denie Nash a clean sweep but still gave Nash the overall from Chamberlain with Jordan Hands with a consistant scorecard of 4,4,4,4,3 taking that third spot on the podium.

The Evo 250 class saw a good battle on the Saturday between Jamie Skuse and Jamie Smith especially in the second race as Smith held Skuse off for most of the race until the closing stages when Skuse managed to get pass and held off Smith to take the win by just over a second. Skuse was to win race 3 to take a hattrick of wins on the Saturday, but the first race on the Sunday saw Skuse go down in the wet on the first corner which put him totally last, but he was soon up and running again and was powering his way up through the field. Smith was to take the win in this one but only just as catching him all the time was Skuse who within another lap would have caught Smith and taking third in this one was a distant Rory Merchant. In the last race Smith led early doors before Skuse took over and from there went on to take a comfortable win with Smith having to settle for second with Merchant again third which was how the overall ended over the two days.

Nigel Kibble giving his all in the Evo 500 class and took second overall after finishing second in all five races

In the Evo 500 class there was a fine display of riding from Luke Dean who was to dominate all five races with Nigel Kibble also putting together five consistant rides finishing second to Dean in all five races with Nicky Jones also being pretty consistant all weekend taking third overall.

Craig Pratley was unstoppable in the Vets Evo over 45 class

The Vets Evo over 45 class saw Craig Pratley show his class completely dominating all five races, but there was a good tussle all weekend between Danny Smyth, Danny Blakley and Dean Warren with all three riders consistant but at the end of the weekend it was Smyth who took second overall just four points ahead of Blakley.

Chuck Davies on his way to taking the overall in the Super Evo under 40’s class

In the Super Evo under 40’s class it was Chuck Davies who took the overall with four wins out of the five races with Jack Seaborne winning the other race. Davies took the overall with Ryan Allen with five consistant rides taking second overall by one point from Seaborne who was third overall whereas in the over 40’s class it was Nathan Davies who was unbeaten over the five races with the overall, James Baker took second overall with third overall going to Craig Dowding. The over 50’s class saw Phil Lewis win the opening race with Paul Wildman winning the other two races on the Saturday, but Sunday saw Steve Wells take the opening race with Wildman the last race which gave Wildman the overall from Wells just 4 points adrift and third overall went to Ray Chivers.

No 50 Mike Allport chasing No 489 Steve Fews in the Vets Evo over 60’s class

In the Vets Evo over 60’s class there was no stopping Mike Allport who was in fine form and dominated all the races over the weekend to give him the overall with Glyn Morton taking second overall with second place finishes in all races and third overall was claimed by Greg Pascoe who finished on the same points as Steve Fews but with the better result in the last race Pascoe took the third spot on the podium.

The Twinshock under 50’s class there was a fine display of riding on both days from Matt Nash who took all five race wins with Matt Wells consistant in all the races taking second overall and third overall went to Marc Brockhurst whereas in the over 50’s category the overall went to James Reeves who took three wins with Mark Gleadhill beating Reeves in the other two races to give him second overall and third overall went to Neil Midgley with three consistant rides.

Matt Nash dominated all five races in the Twinshock under 50’s class

The Modern 2-Stroke under 50’s class was to go down to the last race with just one point separating Joshua Herbert and Kris Ayres as to who was going to take the overall over the weekend and it was Ayres who had the best start and he was not to look back from that point and held off Herbert all through the race to take the win to give him the overall from Herbert by two points with Dan Bartlett taking third overall where in the over 50’s there was no stopping Terry House on the Saturday who notched up a hattrick of wins but House was a non-starter on the Sunday and it was Rob Mead who was an absentee on Saturday who took both race wins on the Sunday, but the overall as to go to Gareth Dunsford with a scorecard of 4,2,2,2,2 with John Heath taking second overall with Darren Kennington a well-deserved third overall.

No 146 Dan Bartlett and No 810 Oliver Barnes battling it out in the Modern 2-Stroke under 50 class
