Checking in with Bobby Bruce

Checking in with Bobby Bruce

Bobby Bruce began the 2025 campaign in perfect fashion with victory at the MXGB opener at Hawkstone Park. However, the season soon took a different turn when he picked up a knee injury while competing in the EMX series in France. After trying to manage the issue, Bruce eventually made the tough call to undergo ACL surgery in August.

Now back to full fitness, Bruce returns for the new season ready to reset and line up in the MX1 class under his own banner, and after a strong third with three solid motos under his belt at the Scottish Championship at Tain last weekend, things are looking positive.

We caught up with him ahead of Round 1 to hear how preparations have gone and what his plans are for the year ahead.

Dirt Hub: Hey Bobby, first up, how has your recovery been from the surgery you had in August?

Bobby: Recovery has been very well. It’s always hard coming back from an ACL injury, especially when I have done the same one a few years ago. I have put a lot of work in with my coach to get to this point so hopefully we will just keep building to full fitness again.

DH: You announced that you are running your own set-up in 2026. What was the reason behind this decision?

Bobby: The decision to run my own programme was purely based on the fact that I didn’t have much else. We believed that if we had a good enough backing, we could do it on our own, with our own freedom. Luckily, I have some very good people in my corner helping to run the logistical side of things, so I can keep out of it a bit and focus on training and riding.

DH: You have decided to go into the MX1 class this year. Why is that?

Bobby: I chose the 450 as I feel like I was at a bit of a dead end on the 250. I’m quite big now, so to have any chance of winning on one, I would need a super-fast engine that just wouldn’t have been manageable with the budget we have.

DH: The MX1 class seems to be the most stacked its been for a while, have you got targets to where you would like to finish in the Championship standings?

Bobby: The MX1 class is going to be tough this year, but I have an open mindset and realistic goals in my head. As long as I keep control of that, I’m sure I will be fine.

DH: Last year, you won the opening Round in MX2 at Hawkstone. That must bring back great memories for you. How much would it mean to you after a tough 12 months to get a good result in MX1 at Hawkstone?

Bobby: Of course, to start the season with a good one would be nice, but I have to be patient with where I’m at and try to just build from the first round.

DH: I see you raced the Scottish Champs at the weekend. Are you looking to race the full series?

Bobby: Luckily, I have some good sponsors, one of them being Modu, who is helping me with the Scottish, which will be cool to race a new series and get some more racing under my belt on the 450.

DH: Where else are you planning to race this year?

Bobby: We have some plans to race overseas, but we will see how my speed is before we make a decision on anything.

DH: Who would you like to thank for their support this year?

Bobby: There are so many people to thank for helping me out this year; it would truly not be possible without them, so it’s greatly appreciated.
