The 2025 Motul ACU British Motocross Championship is heading full steam into Scotland and the Duns circuit this weekend, as it holds the 6th and 7th rounds at its spectacular confines in the Borders region of the country.

Fresh from blitzing the MXGP of the Netherlands last weekend, the Bullet Jeffrey Herlings will be making his first race appearance on Scottish soil in the MX1 class, where his duel with Red plate holder, Conrad Mewse, will resume. Crendon Tru7 Honda rider Mewse has a real chance of being crowned champion this weekend, so will this be on his mind, or will he be going all out to beat Herlings??
One rider trying to stop Mewse from early glory is the Chambers Racing rider Adam Sterry, who is 43 points down on the leader, so he will need to ramp it up to halt the celebrations, but we know the Welshman won’t give up. Lexa MX’s Josh Gilbert will also be looking to put the hammer down to close in on Sterry and secure his spot on the podium, but all of the above need to beware of DRT Kawasaki’s Taylor Hammal, who has been growing massively in confidence in recent weeks, having defeated Herlings in a moto a few weeks back at the Monster Masters.
All Scottish eyes will also be on Lexa MX’s John Adamson, who will be going all out to stand on the box in front of his home crowd. 2024 Scottish Champ Brad Todd returns to the fold, too, after racing in America, and will be looking to put this experience to good use at what is a fairly local venue for the northern-based racer.
Keep your eyes out also for Apico Honda’s Tom Grimshaw who is starting to ramp it up after his early season AX injury, Chambers Racings Dan Thornhill whose results have been improving at every round, Dirt Store Triumphs Joel Rizzi who is due a big result, Louie Kessell who had a storming round at Landrake, the fast starting Chris Mills, former World Junior Enduro Champ Jed Etchells on his MX return, Calrton Husband, Liam Knight and Charlie Putnam.

While MX1 could be sewn up in Duns, the battle for title supremacy in MX2 is far from over, but at the moment it’s a case of the apprentices having to topple the master. The master being Dirt Store Triumph’s Tommy Searle, whose superb performance at Landrake puts him 14 points clear at the top of the standings over his young team mate Billy Askew. Askew had a quiet weekend in Landrake and knows he will need to up his game in Duns if he is going to take the title fight to Searle. SC Sporthomes Husqvarna’s Charlie Heyman is in attacked mode and is third in the table and being the reigning Scottish MX2 champ and with experience in the US under his belt and second overall in Landrake he will be a rider to watch as will the ASA United GasGas of Ben Mustoe who notched up his first MXGB moto win in Landrake with a fall in moto two halting what could have been an overall win for the young rider.
These four are the only four riders with a realistic chance of claiming the championship, but a whole host of riders could make it onto the box in Scotland, with Gabriel SS24 KTM’s Oriol Oliver already being a round winner, and with GP credentials, he could take some stopping. DRT Kawasaki’s Kay Karssemakers landed a good second moto in Cornwall and has been in the points in GP’s, and Oliver’s SS24 team mate Max Werner will also be looking to get closer to the sharp end.
Returning after a 3-year absence from racing is Davy Pootjes, who will be lining up for the SAS TPC KTM team, so it will be interesting to see how this former MX2 World Championship rider will fare on his comeback.
As is the depth of MX2 there is a whole heap of riders who could be on the sharp end on their given day including Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Jake Nicholls who sits in sixth in points, Chambers Racings Glenn McCormick and Ollie Colmer, Phoenix Tools Fantics Josh Vail, Worx ToTal Triumphs Callum Mitchell, and of course Joe Brookes who has shown lightning speed since his return from injury.

The 125cc class is all set up to be a barnstormer with Charlie Richmond looking to extend his 13-point advantage over Ryan Waggott. Waggott, though, has a good pedigree in Scotland, where he plys his trade, and will take some stopping, and with four races on the cards, he will be looking to close the gap right down ahead of the Lyng finale. Watch out, though, for Drew Stock and Hayden Statt, who went 1-2 in the Yamaha YZ bLU cRU Europe Cup Superfinale in Sweden and will be high on confidence and looking to make inroads into the points leader to keep their title hopes alive.
Other riders looking to break into the top three will be Harry Lee, Lucas Moncreiff, Zane Stephens, Christopher Brindlay, Jack Evans, Alfie Geddes-Green, and the returning Finley Pickering.
