Askew, Bruce, Chambers and the Bike It Kawasaki team on their MXGP of Spain!

Round two saw the Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team head to Spain to the circuit of Intu Xanadú. Despite early setbacks that pushed him down the pack, American Jack Chambers showcased his endurance by maintaining consistent lap times throughout both races. In his first race, he made a remarkable comeback from twenty-fifth to fifteenth over the race, and a final two positions in the last lap to finish thirteenth. In the second race, Chambers had a mid-pack start and slowly gained a few positions throughout the race before another final lap push to cross the chequered flag in eleventh to confirm thirteenth overall. This performance placed him fourteenth in the world championship standings.

Bobby Bruce was riding well and looking comfortable on the Spanish circuit. Unfortunately Bobby had three silly small issues that caused him to have to retire from each race. – A series of bad luck as he should have come away with some decent points based on how he was riding.

Newcomer Billy Askew, the youngest on the Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team, had quite a weekend. In his debut at this level, he started from outside the top twenty but managed to finish nineteenth in the first race. On Sunday morning, he surprised everyone by holding second place with a ten-second lead over his nearest competitor. Unfortunately, the front mudguard got damaged, impairing his vision of the ruts. Eager to finish in the top five, a few crashes due to the lack of vision cost Billy some positions but he was still able to secure a handful of points finishing in fifteenth, and gaining valuable experience in his first-ever international competition.

Jack Chambers – MX2

“We made some changes in set-up since last week and are getting where we need to be, but I had to come through the pack both times. The first moto was tough to come back to thirteenth after two falls but the second moto I was battling the entire moto to just miss the top ten. I just need a few more races like today, but with better starts, then we can be up there in the mix.”

Bobby Bruce – MX2

“I’m happy with my riding and how it’s improved since I last raced last year, my wrist is holding up well. It was an unfortunate weekend but I am looking forward to the next few races and the intensity of the FIM MX2 World Championship.”

Billy Askew – EMX250

“Yesterday was my first experience racing outside the UK but I got that ticked off the list and had a much better feeling today. The track was rutty and wet today – much more like conditions back home – and I could run with the top boys for ten minutes. The clutch lever must have taken a knock when I crashed but I managed the best I could and am looking forward to the rest of the series.”

Steve Dixon

“I knew it was going to be a tough weekend when our truck engine broke in France, on the way to the GP. Despite efforts from many people we were unable to hire or locate a replacement tractor unit. Undeterred we pushed on throughout the night, collecting the stuff we needed from the truck and setup a temporary base for the weekend. A great team effort from everyone to get everything ready in time. Some impressive riding by Jack, Bobby and Billy this weekend, which gives good encouragement for the rest of the season. Jack is on the verge of breaking into the top tens. With improved starts since Argentina we will continue our path to improve each weekend. Both Bobby and Billy have surprised me with their riding skill and smoothness around the track. It’s unfortunate for Bobby that he had some avoidable issues, but as a team we are always focused on the bigger picture and looking forward to the next round – although the deep sand of Sardinia is always a challenging weekend. “
