The structure of the ACU’s TeamGB national motocross programme will be strengthened in 2026 with the official British Junior World Motocross Championship and Motocross of Nations teams coming together under a new combined squad led by MXoN British Team Manager, Mark Chamberlain and his team.
Introducing a new unified structure will support the development of the UK’s brightest emerging talent by creating closer alignment with riders, management and coaching staff at the top of the senior ranks.
Building a system in which young riders can gain vital skills and experience, allows the ACU to provide a clear pathway for the next generation to become stronger riders – both in their own right and when representing TeamGB.
Aligning TeamGB with the approach taken by other leading European motocross nations including France, Italy, and Spain – as well as the structures that have been successfully introduced in other ACU disciplines like trials, speedway, and enduro – marks a major strategic step forward.
And having a unified national motocross programme will bring fresh opportunities for commercial partners to back the efforts of TeamGB MX riders as they represent their country.
TeamGB Motocross Manager, Mark Chamberlain, said: “This new TeamGB national motocross structure is a big step forward for our sport in the UK. Bringing our junior and senior programmes together gives us the power we need to push our young riders to the next level.
“We’re creating a clearer pathway, putting stronger support in place, and introducing a unified team culture that will drive performance on the world stage. I’m very excited about what this means for our riders, sport, and the future of TeamGB in motocross.”
ACU President, Tim Lightfoot, said: “It’s clear that for British riders and teams to mount a serious and consistent challenge in world motocross, a new performance system is necessary. As the national governing body of motorcycle sport in the UK, the ACU is making a series of strategic decisions to support this aim – this week’s launch of our new High Performance Academy and this national motocross structure are key to achieving our performance targets on the world stage.
“As we enter an exciting new era for British motocross, the ACU would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Dave Willet and his team for the outstanding work they have done, and the success they have achieved with the British Junior World Motocross Championship team during the last three years. Achieving two podiums in that timeframe is a huge achievement and one that the ACU is very proud of.
“The junior team set-up wasn’t in the best shape when Dave took over the reins, but he and his team have worked incredibly hard to turn TeamGB’s fortunes around at junior level. The contribution they’ve made during the last three years will undoubtedly have a bearing on the success that we hope TeamGB will go on to record as a unified motocross unit in the future.”
