2022 got off to a cracking start at the weekend with several “firsts” for Lincolnshire Enduro club. The venue itself Ashby Puerorum, broke a record for the number of entrants sat on the start line at that particular site. The new main sponsor (https://www.backofficepro.co.uk) will have been pleased to see nigh on 160 riders awaiting the gun to go for the first of the club’s eight rounds this year.

In perfect weather and with fairly dry “under tyre” conditions for the mixed 6 mile route, off to winning ways once more was Expert Jack Rowland. Hailing from across the “border” in South Yorkshire, Jack got away from the line quick enough and was never really headed. Apart from just one lap of the fourteen he managed, he was a few seconds faster every time than his nearest rival, Elliot Milburn. Whilst both lads were on fourteen laps when the flag went down after three hours, those few seconds per lap that Jack had gained were enough to seal victory by some six minutes in the premier class. A lap down was Toby Hales in third place.

The biggest class of the day was The Clubman class. Thirty three riders set off and in the end, eight riders had accumulated thirteen laps. Josh Knight took the honours and whilst he had a couple of laps mildly slower than second placed man Ethan Champion, Josh was on the podiums top spot by a little over two minutes. Another minute adrift of Ethan was Thomas Sargent in third.

The closest winning margin of the day was in the Sportsman 4stroke class. Alex Shaw won in the end, by just over a minute. However, looking at the later lap times, second place man Simon Owen was just starting to cut into Alex’s lead with a few faster laps when the three hour race finished. Scott Snell finished in third spot, a further two minutes adrift. The first six riders were on eleven laps when the race finished. In the other Sportsman class, (the two strokes), the winning margin was a little larger, this time almost two minutes. Whilst the first four riders were on twelve laps, Scott Stone emerged as the victor. Christian Humphrey was second, followed home by Archie Kirk.

In the over 40’s there was a clear winner as the rider in question was a clear lap in front of his nearest rivals. Lee Hattersley was on thirteen laps whilst the next six guys were a lap down. Nicholas Whitehead was second with Andrew James in third. That gap was pretty close though . . . under thirty seconds in fact.

The over 50’s provided another clear winner too. This time, it was Alan Vissian a full lap in front of his nearest competitors. Andy Jackson was second, a lap down with twelve whilst Ian Shepherd on the same lap was some two minutes back in third. In the over 60’s, Kev Bartle Sr was the winner and once again a full lap in front of rivals Robert Followell and then Anthony Williamson. Sean Avison won the Trail/classic class. One of the biggest group of Beginners ever were also on the start line on the day too. Thirteen took part.

The club hopes you are all on the next start line which is at North Willingham, on April 3rd – Enter here >> https://www.acu.org.uk/events/April-2022/Lincolnshire-Enduro-Club/Enduro/Willingham-ACU63028.aspx

On the day of the event, there was a couple of extra prizes to be presented. Firstly, there was Justin Murphy’s sponsored “mini bike” to be handed out. Won via auction, all proceeds went to the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance service. It was won by recipient Richard Stoney. Secondly, an “award” was given out to someone who got closest to a “mystery time” over the line during the race, pre-set by the CoC. Sponsored by Donkz Racing, the winner Adrian Skelton came away with a new pair of race gloves, palm savers and grip donuts.
