It’s the Weymouth Beach motocross this coming weekend, October 10th/11th, promoted by those great guys at Purbeck MXC in conjunction with the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club. As usual, following a partial track build on Saturday, some of the Purbeck members will take to the beach in the afternoon and present a small motocross demonstration. Also, on both Saturday and Sunday, look out for that famous Beach motocross Gorilla, Mr Andy Hobbs, who will be up to his mischief and entertaining you with tricks aboard his trusty red Honda quad.

With the track build completed on Sunday morning, it’s then time for the serious action to start, as practice at 11.30am will be swiftly followed by two frantic blocks of racing featuring Juniors, Seniors, Experts and Vet’s Over 40s riders. Race times for those classes will be Juniors 15 minutes plus 1 lap, Seniors 20 minutes plus 1 lap, Experts 25 minutes plus 1 lap and Vets Over 40s 18 minutes plus 1 lap.

In the Experts class, FUS Marsh rider and last year’s winner Shane Carless returns to defend his title whilst also preparing for the following weekend’s big Weston beach race. Shane, though, faces plenty of serious opposition at Weymouth this weekend, including new FUS Marsh Honda signing Dan Thornhill. At Weymouth and indeed throughout the coming Winter in the French Beach race series, Dan though will be competing still under the Chambers Racing banner as he honours a contractual agreement. Also on the line this weekend will be ACU Motul 125cc British Championship winner and teenage JK Yamaha pilot Drew Stock. Other fellow ACU Motul British Championship competitors entered include brothers and MX1 riders Charlie and Syd Putman along with Simon Booth. In a quality field, looking for big results will be AMCA British Championship top six runners Jordan Wright and Luke Newman, regular sand race rider Brad Thornhill, Jack Evans, Charlie Hucklebridge, the Midwest Racing Husqvarna duo of Wyatt McGregor and Will Turner and top ten finishers in 2025, James Bates, Jacob Bowden and Lee Truman. Having finished top three in the 2025 Weymouth Seniors class, Jordan Pyne and Jack Alderton move up this year to try their luck in the Experts.
In the 2026 Seniors entry at Weymouth, Callum Radford is the only notable finisher from last year’s event who is returning to tackle the soft sand again. Last year, Callum was 4th and should start as one of the favourites this time around, bearing in mind that throughout the Winter, he is a regular competitor in the French beach racing season. The Seniors class this year will also feature Oli Wickers, the winner of the Juniors in 2025, along with Henry Crawford, who finished 3rd, and Jamie Aitken, 4th. In this Seniors contest, also look out for two fast, top girls from the AMCA Women’s Championship: Caitlin Newman, the 2026 Champion and Amber McGregor, who was victorious in 2025.
Over in the Juniors class, Lewis Cornwall, who finished 11th in 2025, is the highest-placed rider competing again. As usual, this class has produced a stacked entry list and features Charlie Osborne, the 2026 AMCA British Championship Clubman winner. It’s going to be very interesting to see who comes out on top in this one! The final class at Weymouth for Vets Over 40s sees the 2025 runner-up Jim Davies go for glory, along with Chris Toulson, who was 8th, and Mark Morris SNR in 9th. Their main opposition in 2026 will probably be provided by the Gloucester-based Lane brothers, James and Simon. Both are either current or previous AMCA Champions and share an incredible 10 titles between them!
So, get along to Weymouth Promenade this weekend for some super exciting beach motocross action. Although spectators can watch for FREE, please remember that this is a charity event, so please either purchase an event programme or give generously to the Lions Club bucket collections.
