One of the best MX1 entries in recent years is gathering to put down an early marker on their season, both on the World and British stages, none more so than defending MXGP World Champion Romain Febvre, who has a host of Former World Champions who have their eyes firmly set on his prize this year. Among those to watch out for at Hawkstone are the newly signed Honda HRC duo of Jeffrey Herlings and Tom Vialle, the recently elevated Kay de Wolf, Yamaha’s Maxime Renaux, Febvre’s Kawasaki team mate, Paul Jonass, Ducati’s new signing Calvin Vlaanderen, plus the Fantic racing pair of Brent van Doninck and Alberto Forato.
British hopes are with the likes of Dirt Store Triumphs Ben Watson, British Champ Conrad Mewse on his Crendon Fasttrack Honda, Chambers Racings Adam Sterry and Apico Honda’s Josh Gilbert, plus loads more, while it will also be interesting to see how British MX1 champs contendor Oriol Oliver on the Gabriel SS24 KTM stacks up against his MXGB rivals.
Current MX2 World Champion Simon Laengenfelder tops the billing in the 250 class, although Kawasaki’s Mathis Valin was rapid last year and with another year’s experience under his belt could be hard to beat. Jens Woolvort and Gyan Doensen are also riders with plenty of pedigree who could be podium contenders. The big interest though is the host of young British riders who will be at the sharp end and looking to topple their International rivals on home soil including the likes of ASA United GasGas’s Ben Mustoe, Dirt Store Triumph’s Billy Askew, Joe Brookes, Chambers Racing’s Ollie Colmer, Phoenix Tools Fantic’s Josh Vail and Pro Rookies Jamie Keith, Cole Mcullough and Charlie Richmond.
