Gribble the Evo beast of Bodmin! Ewan George EVO MX – Race Report and Results

The Cornwall and Devon Motocross Club paid tribute to club member Ewan George who sadly passed away earlier in the year by hosting an EVO MX with Youth and Modern support in his name at the Bodmin Motor Park over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The weather was horrendous on Thursday with torrential rain piling down on the circuit, but the sun came out on Saturday morning, and although practice was wet and muddy, as expected the track improved with every heat, and by Sunday with the sun shining, everyone was smiling, there were no major incidents, the trophies were awarded and the venue was clean & clear by 6pm.

Donations of £1300 were awarded to Ewan’s family towards a memorial bench and the success of the event means it is set to be on the calendar again for 2021 at the same time and same place.

In the EVO class Jack Gribble took the honours with three moto wins, having only been defeated by local young gun Louie Kessel who made his first appearance on an Evo Honda machine. Liam Curtis-Stevens and Matt Holcombe tied for second but the number two spot went the way of Curtis-Stevens courtesy of beating Holcombe in the final moto.

Brad Maddever feasted on a trio of Chequered flags to win in the Super Evo category. The only other winner was 2020 British Enduro Championship winner Josh Gotts who was second with Luke Hill in third.

The race wins in the Twinshocks were share between eventual winner Mark Roberts, Tim Dallaway on a BSA and Sam Morcom, although that would be the only moto he would finish. Dallaway would end the weekend in second and John Parker was third.

Par Homes RFX Husqvarna Pro Josh Gilbert show his pure class in the Adult Open, not surprisingly winning every moto with times 7 seconds a lap quicker than any of his rivals. Ty Westcott is really coming of age this season and backed up his final MX Nationals race win with second overall with a busy Louie Kessell in third.

Will Dennis put in a storming performance in the Auto’s winning all four moto’s for the overall over Timothy Pengelly in second and Evan Davy third.

In the Junior 65’s Alfie Geddes-Green was another rider to rack up maximum points going 1-1-1-1 over the weekend. Cameron Chapman was second on each occasion to stand on the number two spot on the box with Harvey Rowe edging out Freddy Richards for third.

Harlow Green went close to going unbeaten in the Small Wheel 85’s but Brandon Buckley came on strong in the last moto to avenge the previous three. It would be Green who would take the overall from Buckley, with Gus Mustoe in third.

Ben Mustoe was a class performer in the Big Wheel 85’s firing in four blisteringly fast moto wins for the overall ahead of Finley Evans and Phillip Tchorek.

The Seniors was the biggest group of the weekend and the racing was out of the top drawer. Ryan Mundell was a powerhouse on Saturday, taking victories in both moto’s but on Sunday both Ben Zeale and Leon Williams took the chequered flag with the final result being Mundell with the win, Zeale second and Williams third.
