Overnight rain had transformed the circuit into a quagmire, but Dylan was able to master the mud in qualification with the fastest lap time through the fog over the seaside venue. After losing drive out of the gate, Dylan described the first race as “emotional”. He battled back to 2nd quickly, before a slip on a jump face sent him into a trackside fence!
Setting the fastest lap of the race in his recovery from the crash that put him back to 8th, the #53 tore back through to 3rd, crossing the line under a second behind the rider in front! The team had to change the exhaust pipe and part of the subframe after the crash.
Determined to make his clear speed count for a result, he fought hard through the first corner to secure the holeshot, and on a drier circuit set a blazing pace to record the fastest lap again! Despite falling late on, “like an idiot”, he still took the race win by nearly 20 seconds from title winner Conrad Mewse.
“It’s been a difficult year so far, but the speed’s always been there. I have to thank the team a lot for always having my back and giving 150%”, said Dylan on earning 2nd overall. Crew Chief Sam Yates added, “On a hard-going day with full muddy radiators the bike lasted really well. We’ve all worked long hours and to get our first win of ‘22 is really gratifying. Hopefully we will reveal our plans in the next month or so for what is happening next year both in the US and the UK.”
