Clayton sweeps up at Wheeldon! Brushless Indoor Electric MX 2 – Race Report & Results

The Brushless Indoor Electric MX event 2 took place at Wheeldon Off-Road Centre this weekend with more riders, Brands and fans than the previous event. The stakes were even higher, and the atmosphere certainly reflected that.

Stag Motorcycles – With a mixture of experienced and novice riders (showing how wide reaching and accessible this format is) we are immensely proud of the whole team who performed commendably. Hayden Padwick dug in for an exceptional and gritty finals race taking 2nd in Group D (and 1st prize for the loudest support crew!) Henry Vockins and James Cooper had the Stag team on edge with their battle in the Group B final, both just narrowly missing out on a podium place. Bryn Ramsden with a solid days racing on the stock LMX161 MXR, taking home bronze in the A final. Well done all!

EV Freaks – 4 great riders on 4 modified bikes. After a 6 hour drive to the event, this team put on a great display on the track bringing a level of raw enthusiasm and entertainment to the event. Special mention to Baz Cooper who, despite some rapid lap times, missed out on A group qualifying due to a belt failure in the heats.

CAKE – Premium machines and a premium performance to boot. Well done Ben Clayton and CAKE for showing us how it should be done and taking home the group A Victory.

Mike Wheeler Motorcycles – A team of Motocross Vets bringing a vast amount of race experience and class to this new form of motorsport. Their unrivalled team spirit saw them through as they were forced to rotate bikes after 2 Sur Ron belt failures.

Talaria UK – The new kids on the block graciously loaned us a brand-new bike for the event. Unfortunately, their rider was forced to pull out at the last minute due to Covid, but the race bike and the loan bike (with their sealed primary drive system) were put to effective use and given a hard test by a number of riders. All feedback was positive, this is the bike to watch.

The privateers who made the effort and enjoyed the racing as much as we did! These guys are the bedrock of the event and their participation is what it’s all about. Special thanks to Dean who managed to change a record 4 belts during the racing whilst simultaneously supporting his son Kieran, who narrowly missed out on a podium in the A final.

Finally, we want to thank Wheeldon Farm not only for the venue – their indoor track is as good as it gets and the newly rebuilt track proved a physical and technical challenge for all, but also for the support in helping us bring the event together including catering, lap timing, medical and Media!

If you’re wondering how to get use from your electric bike during the cold and relentless British winter then these open-entry, fast-growing competitions are the answer – keep an eye open for the next Brushless MX event.
