Ben Watson eyes AMA Pro Motocross Rounds in 2027

British number two Ben Watson has revealed that a trip to America to race some AMA Pro Motocross rounds is in the pipeline for his 2027 season, alongside racing a slimmed-down calendar of European GPs, with his focus again being on the British Motocross Championship.

Speaking to Dirt Hub’s Josh Allen at the Motocross of Nations, Watson confirmed that discussions have already taken place about heading Stateside next year, although nothing has been finalised.

“We’ve also had some discussions about doing a couple of AMA rounds,” said Watson.

“That’s in the pipeline but, I can’t confirm anything, but that’s definitely something in my book that I want to do, but also for the team, it’s a cool experience for them to go with their riders to race there.”

“So let’s see. The schedules are not out yet. We need to pick and choose what works around the British Championship, which is obviously the team’s priority, and then we’ll go from there.”

Alongside the possibility of racing in America, Watson is also planning to contest selected European rounds of the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship, although he expects to make fewer MXGP appearances than in 2026.

“I think we’ll choose a few more select ones that help for the team with the travelling expenses, and also what’s good for me,” he explained.

“Some of the local ones like Lommel and Arnhem are good for me, so we’ll make sure we’re doing them.”

Before preparations begin for the new season, Watson intends to take some time away from racing to recover from a demanding 2026 campaign.

“I’m definitely going to have a good recovery, take a good few weeks off and fix a few little niggling injuries that I’ve got.

“Just focus on getting the body back to 100%, and then we’ll go to Sardinia again through January.”

Watson expects to return to riding before Christmas, before heading to Sardinia for an intensive month of training and testing in January.

Seeing how Ben Watson gets on stateside is an exciting proposition, so let’s hope he and the team make it happen.
