Wheeler dishes it out at Dean Moor! Acerbis Amateur Nationals Round 3 – Race Report and Results

by adminJune 3, 2019

It was a trip for a weekend up the lakes for round 3 of the Acerbis Nationals series and to Dean Moor, a track known for its fantastic views and close racing the track held up to the weather which played its part for most of the weekend until a final downpour nearing the end of block four meant an unfortunate premature end to the still brilliant and close racing.

In the Matthew Rudd sponsored Ladies category, fresh from her stint as a trials rider in the Scottish 6 day trial and domination at the Rhayder Wednesday night race, Jane Daniels took the top spot on the podium with a maximum points haul and retook the series lead. Former champion Nadiya Jones finished in the runner up position with 2-4-2-2 results while young scot Kady Moore made her maiden trip to the rostrum with four third-place finishes.

Jane Daniels dominated the ladies class

In the LS2 Helmets Vets Over 40 class it was CPS Husqvarna rider Brian Wheeler who showed everyone the way around the Cumbrian circuit on his way to four wins from four starts and extend his championship lead even further. Glen Bixby, Danny Blakeley and Danny Tollett ended day one separated by just two points for the runner up place overall which meant everything was to play for on day two. With just the one race run on Sunday Bixby took the upper hand with a fourth just ahead of Blakeley and Tollett who followed him home in fifth and sixth places.

Steve Matthews – Over 50

It was Chris Brown that dominated the Roberts Plant Engineers Vets Over 50 class taking maximum points and proving that good starts make so much difference in the wet slippery conditions. Rivals Nev King and Morton Hannah couldn’t do anything about the flying Honda man out front and shared the second and third place finishes over the weekend to round off the podium overall. Rob Lewis looked to be on for a solid top-five placing however the seriously wet Sunday race cost him and he ended up dropping down the overall classification.

Junior open start

In the Manchester Xtreme Junior Open category, consistency was going to be key but with a mixed bag of results, the 9-1-6-2 scorecard of Luke Price was enough to give him the overall victory by six points from championship leader Ben Stanley who for the first time this year had to settle for runner up on the box. Local lad Kevin Brown had a solid 4-6-5-5 to give him third overall but it was the front cover man and digger driver for round three Steve Riley that suffered most. It could have easily been four wins for the Kawasaki man but mistakes in the second and third races cost him and dropped him to fourth overall.

Sam Hamer – Junior Open

The somewhat unbeatable Husky of Dylan Spencer once again stood on the top step of the rostrum with a maximum haul of points in his back pocket as he decimated the Moto Connection backed 125 2 Stroke field. Apex KTM rider James Hanscombe led laps over the weekend but Spencer was just too strong and so had to settle for the runner up placing overall. Stu Owen and Rian Warren both took a second place finish each over the course of the weekend but eventually finished third and fourth overall separated by just two points.

Hayden Stevens – 125 class

It was all smiles in the Wheeler camp as Brad Wheeler also had a perfect weekend by taking a maximum points haul in the MX dreams California 250 2 Stroke category. Wheeler dominated the weekend taking each holeshot and checking out at the front keeping himself clear of all the carnage. Adam Harris had a solid weekend of racing coming out of the weekend a solid runner up spot while James Lassu and Denny Rapson continued their season-long dual for the series lead finishing third and fourth places respectively and just four points between them overall.

Harry Wichman – 250 class

In the Craigs Motorcycles MX2 class Olly Jones took three wins on Saturday and then followed that up with a third in the slop fest of day two to claim his first MX2 overall win. Series leader Scott Hamilton took the final moto victory to boost him into the runner up placing overall after a crash in the second race of the weekend hindered his chances at the top spot. Seb Berthiaume and Troy Jones tied for the third step of the podium with Berthiaume getting the nod and Andy Lawton finished just two points behind in fifth.

Jason Moore – MX2 Holeshot

In the Paradise MX Holidays MX1 class, Kawasaki mounted Lewis Trickett took the wet conditions in his stride and after some tight battles with Andrew Wilson and local ace Graham Riley on his 250 two stroke, Trickett managed to claim the overall victory with two wins, a fourth and a second. Wilson took the final moto victory which put him tied on points with Riley but Wilson getting the runner up place due to that final win. Riley took home the third prize packet and Edward Briscoe’s race three win elevated him into fourth overall.

Will Morris – MX2

The series now moves to the well known Sherwood circuit at the end of the month for Round 4 of the 7 round championship.
