Walker runs wild at Wooley. NETT Quad Championships Round 1 and 2 – Race Report and Results

by adminApril 20, 2019

The NETT Quad Championship opened its doors on 2019 with the Brian Winrow Memorial Trophy and Rounds 1 and 2 of its series at Wooley Grange last weekend and also hosted the QRS and Tribal-MX ACU British Clubman Sidecars championship first round.

The Quad Championship battle commenced with Lorne Sinclair taking the first hole-shot with Murray Graham, Paul Broomhead and Harry Walker in strong pursuit. A focused ride saw Sinclair hold off the chasers and take the win. Race 2 – Graham took back control of the track and kept it with Walker chasing hard but unable to pass. Sinclair took third with Jack Holmes fighting to take 4th and Michael Brewis closing the door on Lindsay Duke for 5th. Walker’s triumph in race 3 pushed Graham to 2nd, Brewis’s determination finally brought him a 3rd.

Day one: Graham/Walker/Sinclair

Round 2 brought an opening Walker hole-shot that would end in victory with Graham 2nd. A fantastic start from Ayrton Knowles earned him a 4th after Sinclair. A form-finding Adam Robinson refused to give way to Brewis and took 6th behind Gary Atkinson.

Moto 2 – Sinclair led Knowles, chased by Graham and Walker – who fought for the lead and win. There was relentless racing all round and a great battle for 4th between Knowles and Broomhead, gave Graham 2nd and Sinclair 3rd. Graham took the lead in the final Championship race – again pressed hard by Walker who eventually passed and took the win. A tumble from Broomhead handed a chance to Knowles who battled Sinclair to the line for 3rd. Graham claimed 2nd

Day 2: walker/Graham/Sinclair

Harry Walker starts his season in top form

Adult Supports & Over 40s took to the track together and saw the return of Davey Nixon to 4 wheels instead of 3

In the Over 40s, the absence of a ferocious Mark Wolfenden in race 3 ensured the overall victory for 131 – an equally tenacious Steve Pinder, with Richie Cornet and Steve Cain taking 2nd and 3rd. All 3 podium places were duplicated on day 2. Fantastic racing en mass from the old guard and the new – the new being led by impressive performances from Christian Morris, Jack Young and JJ Readman – all showing great speed and skill, mistakes allowing Beevers to take advantage.

Day 1: J Young/ Z Beevers/C Morris
Day 2 saw George Oliver and Marcus Sprason find form with Morris continuing in strong fashion
Day 2: Morris/J Young/Oliver

A 17-strong 150/250 class brought riders from all over the UK and they proceeded to fly for the entire weekend with Alfie Walker and Robbie Wood hotly contesting the number 1 spot and staying ahead of Dylan McKenna, Nett newcomer Chad Beevers and Josh Talent. Highly competitive racing from these young and upcoming riders resulted in almost identical podium places for both days – the exception being a swap at 3rd. Other notable performances from Jake Best showing great potential and Josh Talent on great form.

Day 1: Walker/Wood/McKenna
Day 2: Walker/Wood/C Beevers

Rory Wood took the top spot in 150 geared for both days, as did Cameron Penrose in 250 std. Ethan Best took a 2- day victory with 5/6 wins ahead of Jordon Wright and Johno Robinson-Kirwin.

In the youth classes, a more confident Malachy McKenna took the 50 Mod top spot for both days – as did Amelia Talent in the 100 Std. The 100 Geared class set Adam and Chloe Gibson against each other with Adam claiming victory on day one and Chloe snatching it back on day 2.

The 100 Mod class saw some of the best racing of the event with Kyle Smith, Jay Sams and Taylor Hyndman showing courage, skill and speed as they contested the podium places.

Overall results; Day 1 & 2 – Sams/ Hyndman/Smith

Liam Mudie & Chris Booth followed by Jonathon Wilson & Louise Houston

The Nett Championship Sidecars saw three teams swapping podium places over the 3 motos of Round 1, with two 4th places for Walker & Walker and a great 6th for newcomers Dando & Dando. The “Barnfather” gave the Over 40s a miss and stepped up to race with Lee Brown.

Overall results: Mudie & Booth/ Wilson & Houston/ Wilson & Rowan

Day 2 – Tribal-MX ACU British Clubman Sidecars take to the track for their first Championship meeting of the year.

Rutherford & Brown took the first race ahead of Georges and Simpson, Moss & Henderson. Race 2 – Goodall & Hodges took the flag before Whit & Lloyd with Moss & Henderson reprising their race 1 third. The very last race of the event gave Moss & Henderson the opportunities they needed to take a 1st with Goodall & Hodges chasing and Georges & Simpson claiming 3rd.

The NETT Quad Club would like to thank all for taking part and making a fantastic season opener!
Next event: Rounds 3 & 4 Preston Docks, 29th and 30th June, also hosting the Maxxis ACU British Quad and Side-Car Championship.
