Dartmoor MXC was the hosting club for the round 9 of the Moto-Logic South West Off Road Motocross Series at the magical Landrake Mx Circuit for the final time this year. With a good entry booked in the event was set up to make some great racing for the Spectators.

Race 1 of the Inter 9-14 Big and Small Wheel 85 group was sat on the line ready to go and with a great start it was Ben Zeale who blasted his way to the front of the pack to show them the way around the Cornish circuit and that’s were he stayed to take the win. Kyran Nicholas on the Husquvana was putting in some consistent lap times and with his recent form took 2nd place. Ben Zeale was having a good solid race and took 3rd just in front of the hard-charging Kenzie Cole in 4th and Sam Veale in 5th.

Race 2 was to be the final Inter Moto of the day, and it was Ben Zeale again who took to the front of the pack ahead of Ben Sullivan who held his own whilst locked in a three-way battle with Kenzie Cole in 3rd, Owen Roskilly 4th and Jay Platt 5th

The Seniors were up next and as they took off the line for their first race it was Joe Philips who was at the front and trying to make a break away from the pack, but the man on the mission making his way through the group was Jordan Hembrow who managed to secure the lead on lap 5 from a 10th place start on lap 1. Jordon then went on to secure his first victory in the group since his return to racing. Philips was to come in 2nd, followed closely by the up and coming racer Kyle Breslan who went down in turn 1, pulling a fantastic ride back to 3rd. Tom Ingram was to finish 4th with Kurt Pugsley on the Patts Watts Yamaha 5th.

It was the turn of Sonny Smyth in the second Senior race to launch out of the gate and up the Cornish hillside, where he took the lead on lap 2 and pulled a commanding 22 second gap at the finish line from Breslan again who worked hard from 10th place on lap 1 back to the runner up position. Jordan Hembrow took a solid 3rd just in front of the earlier leader Reagan West on the Tyremarks Racing KTM and Joe Philips in 5th.

In Seniors Race 3 it was Smyth again out front and he took his 2nd win of the day but this time from early race leader Garth Townsend. Marcus Alba was 3rd, Jordan Hembrow 4th and Carl Fuchs 5th.

Newcomer to the Junior Open group Dean Milden took off the line in Race 1 taking a commanding lead to knock up his first race win of the year in that group. Tristan Lethaby was locked in a three-way battle with Ryan Hoskins and Michael Rich, until Hoskins made the move on lap 5 of 7 to secure 2nd place at the line. Lethaby would hold onto 3rd from Rich in 4th and the main man Alan Dingle having his best ride of the year in 5th.

Open Race 2 was off the line again and it was Milden who took a commanding lead and win again, but the action was all going on behind for the 2nd position as Cain White, Martin Wherry, Ryan Hoskin and Tristan Lethaby were all jostling for the points in this one but it was Wherry, White, Hoskin, Lethaby as they crossed the line 4 abreast around the circuit with less than half a second separating them at the line.

Race 3 of the Junior Open went up the start straight and around the long right-hander as Michael Rich was to grab the holeshot from Lethaby as they appeared back into sight. A mistake by Rich allowed Lethaby to go through on him and he tried to make a breakaway out the front of the pack but as lap 3 came around Lethaby was to then also make a mistake going into the fence allowing the 5 second gap on Rich to vanish. Lap 5 saw Cain White make a dive up the inside of leader Rich but the Kawasaki pilot lost the front end on the exit of the turn which then again allowed Rich to take the lead again. As the final lap appeared Jon Pinkley looked to be trying to also snatch the lead but with a good solid last lap Rich was able to hold onto the lead for the win from Pinkley in 2nd .43 of a second behind. Hoskins made his way up to 3rd, Lethaby recomposed himself back to 4th with Sam Andrews 5th.

Junior Elite race 1 disappeared out the gate for the first time of the day and it was the SMS Rockstar Husqvarna of Dominic Stoneman who was looking hungry to get his first win and did that with a huge Fist pump over the line from Jack Mathews 2nd, Justin Wood 3rd, Paul Coombes 4th and Kevin Pengelly closely in 5th.

Stoneman was on a high from race 1 and after whipping the tears away of excitement he took to the front of the pack again in Race 2, but on lap 5 Mathews was hot on his heels and took the lead were he stayed for the win. Stoneman finished 2nd, Wood 3rd, Danny Miller 4th and Ben Walker 5th.

It was Wood out front in Race 3 with another good start, but Mathews was there again and took to the front of the pack where he was to stay for his second win of the day. Wood was 2nd, Alan Packer 3rd, Michael Brailey on the old guys rule KTM 4th, Stoneman 5th.

It was Darren Banwell who took to the front of the pack in the first Expert race with the holeshot but hot in pursuit was Kelvin Townsend who looked all around the circuit for different lines and made his move into the lead and that’s were he stayed for the remainder of the race for the win. Aaron Austin was having a great ride and made his way up to 2nd.  Dominic Thomas the enduro superstar of Devon was here as a one-off and made his way up to 3rd, followed closely by Luke Oldfield and Ben Butler in 5th.It was another great start for Banwell in Race 2 who took another holeshot, but Townsend was there again and made his move to take the lead and his second race win of the day from Butler, Thomas, Banwell and Ross Parkinson in 5th at the final line crossing.

Butler was to take the lead for the final race of the day but yet again Townsend was looking to make it the perfect 3 from 3 and made a break for it out front as he took the lead. Butler had a good solid ride for 2nd, Oldfield 3rd Banwell 4th and Thomas with another solid top 5 finish.

The club would like to thank everyone who mucked in to help run the meeting including the Marshal’s, Medics and track crew.

The series now moves to Whiteway Barton where SWOR themselves host the next round of the series on July the 14th.
