The End of an Era! 2019 Nora-MX Presentation Evening – Report

Duck Smart

The 2019 Nora-MX Presentation evening and awards had no fewer than 200 guests at the regular haunt of the Oxford Belfry last Saturday evening, and there were plenty of emotions in the room which included an emotional handover from the Walker reign to the Shaw family.

More so Nora’s most prestigious award ‘Rider of the year’ this year and for the first time received by a Nora lady, Catrin Davies, who has raced with Nora as a child, and which even made her emotionless Dad Ed possibly shed a tear ??

There were plenty of champions crowned throughout all groups, without mentioning everybody in attendance we saw the McKnight’s recognized for their commitment to the club for 2019, travelling from Ireland every weekend turning up in the small hours of Sunday morning. Ed Davies picked up his 10th Nora masters award, Michael Haydon switching from Novice to Clubman and taking the honours for a second year, long may he continue his progression into adult racing at this pace!!

The Juniors saw Connor Yates have his second moment of glory in two weeks with Alfie North and Frank Marsden as his wingmen!
The 250’s saw Robbie Wood receiving his honours as 250 champ and Chad Beevers in 3rd. Clubman Elite/Clubman overall saw Tom Yates and Lewis Rowles picking up 2 and 3 respectively but Tom did manage to receive the honours by 1 point in the elite class and being Nora’s friendly face which was obvious why. Unfortunately, a hard-fought Gary Atkinson was unable to be with us but received his ACU award.

A few solemn moments saw the newly appointed Tony Atkinson Vets award go to Richard Clark, with Nora’s very own DJ Stumpy runner up and New Mr Nora Richard Shaw picking up 3rd place.

The awards were long, unfortunately, but worth every emotion, numerous special awards were received and the existing Nora crew had their moment on stage.

Stuart, Nikki and Clare would like to thank all past contributors to Nora to make it the most successful club in Europe for Quad Families, and equally with the new team in place, they wish them the very best for the 2020 season.

Nora is poised, and in a terrific place for the future and I am sure the passion within 3 generations of Shaw family will bring even more to the table.

The Walkers are not going anywhere and will all still be racing and on hand to help both Riders in the pits as always and the club, so, unfortunately, your not rid of us yet!

But once again Thank you, you all know who you are!
