It was another scintillating round of racing on Sunday as the Maxxis British Motocross Championships arrived en masse at the popular Canada Heights circuit in Kent.

As expected the Shaun Simpson/Tommy Searle battle continued in MX1 but this time it was the Scotsman Simpson who had the upper hand with a double moto victory, although on both occasions Searle was chasing him down in earnest for second.

Jake Millward has been sensational from the traps this year and again pulled both holeshots and showed his speed and intensity is there with a 3-5 scorecard and the number 3 spot on the box.

Jake Milward holeshoted both MX1 races and took third Overall at the end of the day

Both the Cab Screen Honda team and the Phoenix Tools Kawasaki Team had mixed weekends. Harri Kullas was docked 5 places in the first race after failing a noise test, but with a strong second moto he still secured 4th overall. Gert Krestinov posted two solid motos for fifth overall but his and the teams weekend was marred by the theft of their racebike from the paddock. Brad Anderson finished with a good sixth while John Adamson had a fantastic weekend in seventh.

In MX2 normal procedure was resumed in Moto 1 as Conrad Mewse sped to the win by a 20 second margin, but disaster was to bite hard in race 2 as he came down on the opening lap with his fellow Hitachi KTM teammate Bas Vaesson, taking them both out of the race. While this was happening the Revo Husqvarna duo of Dylan Walsh and Alvin Ostlund were fighting it out at the front. Ostlund would find his way to the front and with his second from race one would take the overall, from Walsh with Josh Gilbert third.

Martin Barr put in another good shift going 5-3 and fourth overall. Alexander Brown rode a stormer for 5th overall, as did our “Man in the Van” Rider of the day Taylor Hammal who had a career-best 6th after pulling through the field in the second moto like a man possessed.  With Mewse crashing out Ostlound now takes the Red Plate and the series lead.

Cheered on by the local crowd Ike Carter put a halt to the Joel Rizzi machine by winning the first MXY2 race with a fantastic ride. Rizzi would gain revenge in an epic race two where the top riders were all separated at one point by just a few seconds. Carter would finish second in race 2, so it was Rizzi with the overall, ahead of Carter and Bobby Bruce who rode well for third. Kyle McNicol had good speed for fourth while Dominic Lancett showed his colours with a great third in moto 2.

The Championships moves onto Blaxhall in Suffolk on the 2nd June for the fourth round of the series.
