Senna Aces it! Minibike British Championships Round 4 – Race Report and Results

WP

Round 4 and the penultimate round of the British Minibike Championships took place at the fantastic Apex venue in Worcester, and with rain all day Saturday the racers were set for some challenging conditions to get their teeth into.

Track Owner Lee burnt the midnight oil though, and come Sunday the track was in prime condition ready for the second batch of racing over the weekend.

There was a fourth different round winner in the Kids 50cc class as newcomer Leo Oraondroyd followed up his three seconds on the Saturday with triple wins on the Sunday for the overall. Saturday’s hero was Casey Lister but he was a no show on Sunday. When it comes to Championship stakes Ethan Georgiou kept his title hopes on track with solid points-scoring all weekend long with his biggest challenger Otto Hookam doing much of the same with them both tied on 118 points, with Georgiou getting the nod courtesy of a final moto second. Corben Rowan continues to improve with fourth, while George Everest had some great rides for fifth overall.

The Kids 65c class was again a little thin on the ground but that made no difference to Ben Casey as he blitzed to six clear race wins ahead of Jack Lace in second and Calien Griffiths in third.

Harry Lee continued his impressive race win streak and extended it to 24 victories on the bounce in the Youth Junior class, leaving Harris Goddard and Ben Johnstone to battle it out for second with Goddard having the edge.

It was a huge coming of age meeting for Senna Ace-Summers, who gained his first-ever Youth Senior overall including two race wins.  Ace-Summers stayed in the top three all weekend long, while Michael Scriven who finished second stacked up four moto wins but a DNF in race 2 relegated him to the number two spot. The battle for the title is unbelievably tight though with Leo Vowles taking over the top spot by just 2 points over Freddy Hills after finishing third. Harry Streeter would finish fourth in an incredibly tight group with Hills in fifth from Jake Speller who sits just 8 points behind the series leader in the championship standings.

The introduction of the fun classes has made a huge difference to the Super Mod numbers and it was Sam Thompson who landed the top step of the podium ahead of Simon Vowles and double race winner David Lamb.

After missing out at the last round Oscar Stearn was back at the head of the field in the Super Stock category ahead of series leader Craig Powell and Simon Crowther.

Lee Mitchell was back with a bang at Apex and his Masters win jumped him up the table to the top of the standings ahead of Matt Chamberlain who could only manage fourth. Jody Burton snuck into second spot, just one point clear of Scott Joyner in third.

An injury spanner has been thrown in the works in the Vets class with series leader Chris Rose crashing out and getting injured before the big points scoring final. With Rose down and out, Jay Taylor would pick up the pieces and take the overall from Peter Boyd and Jan Willekens. Rose has a 126 point cushion over the second-placed Phil Thomas, and with the winner of this round only scoring 100 points, Rose should be safe if he were to miss the final round, although he may want to ride through the pain barrier to make sure.

Kevin Llamas continued his 160 dominance racking up another round and final win and a hefty haul of points to extend his lead to 98 points. Llamas would be joined by another two of his fellow French countrymen, Calley Clement and Clement Begeot and both of them piled in with good points. Although struggling with mechanicals on Day one, Dom Foreman was a force to be reckoned with on the Sunday, beating Llamas in two heats before finishing the final in second. Blaine Blackwell would again put in some great rides, winning two heats and finishing third in the final to consolidate second place in the standings ahead of Foreman.

The final round of the championship takes place on the 14th and 15th September at Kieradan Park near Scunthorpe. For more info on the series head to http://www.minibikechamps.com/
