Racer Profile – Curtis Dixon
Name: Curtis Dixon
Occupation: HGV driver
What type of Offroad do you race? motocross
Your machine? KTM sxf 350
What’s your biggest racing achievement to date? Either taking the class win at the 2016 MCF northern team challenge or coming within one race of winning the 250 2-stroke class championship at the Acerbis nationals in 2018, it’s hard to choose between those two but nothing feels better than winning so I’ll go with 2016!
What are your future goals? to get a top 3 and eventually a win in the mx1 class
Where are you racing this season? Acerbis amateur nationals mx1 and other local expert races
Who is your biggest racing idol? It has to be Troy Bayliss, completely different bike sport I know, but he’s been my favourite rider since I started taking an interested in racing, he never gave up!
Who is your biggest on-track rival? Last year it was Cody Ling in the 250’s, but now I’ve moved up to mx1 we’ll have to wait and see!
What’s your pre-race routine? To try and stay as relaxed as possible and stay loose, nothing ruins a weekend like over thinking stuff. As long as I get my training in before a meeting I feel pretty good, I’ve put more work in for this season than I have for any other, so all of the preseason races Iv felt amazing on the bike.
Any superstitions? Don’t step on three grates in a row on the street!
Who has been your biggest inspiration? Simon Longstaff who is the owner down at body design gym in Pontefract, we’ve sat and spoke for hours and he got it through to me that most of a race comes down to how you look at and approach it before you even get to the track. Stress and worrying about things that you can’t control used to make me ride so rigid without even realising, this past season I proved to myself what I could do when I just relaxed and stopped worrying about everything.
Whose the biggest goon you race with? Tom Kimpton (he’ll love that)
Is there anyone you like to thank for their support?
Mark at Eurotek
Ricky Ludlam at Devotion Ink tattoo in Worksop
Jayson at TeeBee
Richard Cannings for the cleaning gear
Si at body design CrossFit gym in Pontefract
#KPR (Keith’s puncture repair, best tyre change you’ll ever get at the track)
And lastly my girlfriend Nicole who looks after me on race/practice days and always tells me that I look fast, even when I’m rolling around on the floor with a dead leg… (and our French bulldog, Pie)
