Race of Rememberance! RORE/Dorset Enduro Winter Warmer Round 3 – Race Report and Results

by adminNovember 14, 2018

The third round of RORE and Dorset Enduro’s winter series was an important one to many as it was a charity event in memory of marine James Wright. The date was significant as it was the weekend marking 100 years since the end of WW1. At 11am over 200 people stood in the hammering, icy rain, silent, remembering. After two minutes James’ daughter Lily dropped the flag for the championship class.

The winner of the Championship class was Ricky Wiggins, Ricky took an early lead and stayed there setting the fastest lap of the race. Second was fellow Wincaton print rider Brad King, he was the second and last person on 10 laps. Third place was Josh Player, who rode consistently throughout, the rain hardly affecting his impressive lap times.

Lewis Gigg was the winner of the expert class, just narrowly missing out on a 10th lap. Second place Ben Baker who set the fastest lap of the group by only a second showing just how well matched the top three were. Third Place was Adam Agar.

The weather made riding conditions challenging to say the least. It also caused some confusion as the hard, easy, signs were mistakenly written with white board pens, Danny should really start wearing his reading glasses.

Jack Twentyman led the expert vet’s class at the beginning but had to settle with third in the end as victory was taken by Stan Watt. Stan had a terrible start as his borrowed husky 125 wouldn’t go. He’d decided to ignore our advice and start it in gear, they never start in gear! Close behind Stan was Jon Tarr who came eighth overall, beating a lot of experts and champs riders, age is just a number eh John.

Huge thanks go to the marshals and track layers for this event, without them it wouldn’t have run so smoothly/at all! They pushed themselves to the limit in the pouring rain. Simo for flying back from his hols early, Chris who basically dragged the quad round to every corner of the track laden up with medic kit, to Paul O’Connel who buried his mule and Elliot and Brad the fastest marshals out there. Dave Sawtell who helped everyday despite his broken collar bone, Ross Sturmey in his pink hi-vis, Rob Sartin for track prep and letting the girls use the Talon truck for sign on (they want one now!). Plus, countless others before, during and after.

Without the volunteers, riders and marshals this event wouldn’t have run, so to the guy who was shouting and swearing at Danny “because he splashed me”, you should treat marshals with respect as they might turn out to be the guy in charge!

The winner of the clubman A class was Ian Fortune who didn’t have a great start but excelled as conditions worsened. Second place was Guy Krumins who was the only clubman A rider to do an 18minute lap. Close behind in Third was Mathew Joyce.

Daryl Biles was the winner of the Clubman B class, he and second place Jason Morgan battled most of the race and distanced themselves from third place Steve Morton.

The clubman vets’ class was won by Si Thomas who had the fastest lap of the group by over 30 seconds. In second place was Toni Burrows followed very closely by Neil Deakin who was only 2 places behind his son Morgan. The top three were the only ones from the group on 8 laps.

The winner of the James Wright memorial trophy and the sportsman class was Terry Marsh! James must’ve been looking over Terrys shoulder as he had a brilliant race, fittingly James and Terry went to school together, so the memorial trophy has a perfect new home. Second was Benjamin Cowdrey who had the fastest lap of the class, third was Chris Whelan, close behind and on 7 laps.
Thank to everyone who made this event what it was, The Wright family as always, Craig and Pete from Dorset Enduro, Abi and Marcus getting drenched throughout and the rest of the Rogershill team!

See you all at the next enduro practice on 28th November, Round 4 on the 9th of December at Bovington South or back at Rogershill on the 16th for the last enduro practice of the year.
