In the qualifying session Taylor Hammal who was looking to end his season on a high, posted a good lap ending up in fifth with his MX2 counterpart in fifteenth after suffering a few mechanical issues with his race bike. Tony Craig was a solid 15th in MX1.
When the gate dropped in Moto one, it was Craig who was the RHR front runner and hovering around the top ten while Hammal was making his customary surge from outside of the top twenty. A fall for Nunn meant he was dead last on lap one with a ton of ground to make up.
Simultaneously Craig’s and Hammals race would end on lap four with Tony crashing out and aggravating his thumb injury and Taylor suffering a gearbox malfunction when in fifth position. Nunn would keep the wheels turning and got up to ninth position.
Keen to rectify his first moto DNF, Taylor was up to second in MX2 at the end of the first lap, but a fall pushed it right to the back, and another fightback was on the cards. The battle through the pack was halted by another fall, but he still worked his way to eighth. Nunn would suffer a DNF in this moto as well, while Craig decided to sit out of the race due to his aggravated injury.
“It was just another disappointing and frustrating day for the team all round,” said Team Boss Rob Hooper “All three riders had good speed, but crashes and mechanical issues meant that it didn’t show in the results”.
“The MX Nationals team deserve a medal for putting on a great series in such difficult circumstances. They deserve the industries full support next year for doing what they have done, and we are certainly thankful that they gave us the opportunity to go racing this year.”
The team will now regroup for the winter and have their eyes on what National Championships will be running in 2020. Rob and the team would like to thank all of their sponsors for all of their support this year.
