Llamas crowned at Kieradan! 2019 British Minibike Champs Finale – Race Report and Results

WP

The last round of the 2019 British Minibike Championships was held at the awesome Keiradan Park venue near Scunthorpe where a new breed of title winners were crowned.

Leo Oraondroyd continued on from round four by taking the overall in the Kids 50cc class but Aaran Shepherd Smith showed what he can do with three race wins to his name but a DNF hindered his progress and he would finish fourth overall. All eyes though were on the Ethan Georgiou/Otto Hookam battle for the title which has raged all season long, but again Georgiou had the edge over the six motos, and as well as taking second in the round he would be crowned a very worthy champion from Hookam who would finish third on the day. James Hobson had some great races but a low scoring second moto place him fifth overall with George Everest in sixth.

The Kids 65cc class were pitched in with the Youth classes but made a good impression among the big racers with Max Pridmore going through the card with 6 wins, to take the overall but it wasn’t enough to overhaul Ben Casey who would take the title even though he wasn’t present at this final round. Corey Hull and Jamie Thorpe were second and third in each moto for the same positions overall with Mason Flynn fourth, Jonathan Payne fifth, Jaydon Herrick sixth and Louis Moss seventh.

The question on everyone’s lips in the Youth Junior class was could Harry Lee go unbeaten again, and go all season without anyone lowering his colours. Well the answer was a definitive yes, with Lee once again notching up a full set of six victories for the days win, and in doing so becoming the undisputed Youth Junior Champion of Great Britain. Harris Goddard would finish in his familiar second spot over the weekend and in the series, with Ben Johnstone and Jamie Clarke also going 3rd and 4th on the day and in the championships.

The biggest fireworks this year have been in the Youth Senior class and with just a few points separating the title contenders everything was set for a dramatic showdown in this group.  It was Senna Ace Summers who showed early, banging in four moto wins in quick succession but as the heat built up Michael Scriven with the race five win was the most consistent over the six races to take the weekend win from Summers. All eyes on the final moto were on Freddy Hills and Leo Vowles as Vowles was holding a four-point lead in the championship standings over Hills. Hills had the race of his life though to hold off Scriven for the race win and with Vowles unable to pass Harry Streeter, the title would go the way of Hills in dramatic circumstances, taking the championships by just three points over Vowles with Scriven third. Over the weekend though Hills would be third ahead of Vowles and Streeter with Jake Speller in sixth.

Ewan Goddard would make a one-off appearance in the Super Stock fun class and with two moto wins to his name would edge out another Moto winner Craig Powell to the overall, with Tom Burrill third. Chris Rose got in on the act on Sunday and would also pitch in with two victories.

Ronnie Mac sure knows how to race a Minibike and the Stock Mod Fun class was mopped up by this crazy character with six wins from Sam Thompson and Dave Lamb, although it would be Simon Vowles who would claim the title.

In the Masters category, Jody Burton showed what could have been if he hadn’t missed a round, storming to the class win over Lee Mitchell who did the business over Matt Chamberlain to successfully defend his title.

Chris Rose was another rider to win back to back titles, fighting against the pain of a recent injury to win the weekend and the championship.  Jay Taylor would sneak the round 5 number 2 spot by just a solitary point over Nigel Jamieson.

It has been a stunning debut MBC season for Frenchman Kevin Llamas who held a good lead in the headlining 160 class coming into this last round of 2019.  Having reigned supreme in each round thus far it would take something special to topple Llamas but that magic was served up by Dom Foreman who would turn the tables on the French racer beating him in three heats as well as the final to take the round win and secure third place in the series. Llamas though had points in hand and by finishing in the top two in each heat and cruising home in the final would take the title in what has been a tremendous year for the rider. Blaine Blackwell was another rider to have a great weekend and with his second in the final and three heat wins he would lay claim to second overall in the series.

That brings down the curtain of our 2019 British Minibike Champs coverage. Keep up to date with us as the MBC release their 2020 plans.
