Lewis does the trick at Culham! Acerbis Amateur Nationals Finale – Race Report and Results

WP

Culham was the host venue for the seventh and final round of the 2019 Acerbis Nationals series and what a series it has been. Crisscrossing the country all summer led to eight worthy champions at the end of it all and what a journey it has been.

It was the Paradise MX Holidays MX1 class that hit the perfectly groomed circuit first and Cory Nemeth took his 2 stroke KTM to first blood as series leader Lewis Trickett was possibly riding a little nervous with the title on the line. Trickett bounced back however and with two wins to finish off on Saturday the Kawasaki man wrapped the title up a race early with a third in moto four. Trickett ended with a final race win and the overall to his name. Cory Nemeth rode solid all weekend after his first race victory but runner up on the weekend was what he had to settle for with Andy Wilson claiming the other race win to help him to third overall.

Lewis Davison

It looked like the pressure was on for Craigs Motorcycles MX2 leader Seb Berthauime as a mechanical in the first outing halved his gap at the top. A fourth to finish day one and a win and fourth at the start of day two, however, was enough to clinch the championship like Trickett with a race to spare. It was wildcard Cory McShane who took the overall honours however with three wins, a second and a third from the ever consistent Olly Jones. Todd Leadbitter took the final race win on his way to the lower step of the rostrum. Troy Jones finished the weekend fourth while Ashley Beniston solidified runner up in the standings with fifth overall.

Nigel Smorfit

The Moto Connection sponsored 125 class provided us with some brilliant racing as always with AMCA MX2 champ Jamie Wainwright on a 1994 Honda 125 and former British Youth champ Howard Wainwright on his Suzuki in the mix, then throw in Dylan Spencer and you’ve got a tussle. The Wainwright boys weren’t scoring points however so Spencer went on to take 5 wins and unbelievably become the first rider to successfully defend the 125 title in the history of the series. Ash Harland had a solid weekends racing and even a third moto start spill couldn’t stop the Yamaha man from taking runner up on the day. James Hanscomb came back from his issues at Farleigh to take third on the podium.

Alan Morton

Adam Harris was the man in charge once again of the California MX Dreams 250 Open 2 stroke category as he stormed his way to five race wins, the overall on the weekend and the number one plate which he proudly placed onto the front of his Yam for the final moto. Brad Wheeler took the runner up on the weekend and has pushed Harris all year long but eventually came up 52 points short in what has been a titanic battle. Matt Ridgway surely fancies his chances in 2020 after another podium place on his Midwest Husqvarna and Chris Nuttall and Ryan Butler rounded off the top five for the weekend.

Toby Bailey

In the LS2 helmets Vets over 40 class Brian Wheeler did what he only knows best and that’s to get out and take 5 masterful wins en route to another title. The CPS Husky man has remained undefeated by any of his rivals all year which is quite an achievement. Danny Blakeley got the better of Danny Tollett for the overall on the weekend but Tollett however held onto his runner up in the championship by 24 points over Blakeley. Barry Gray took home the fourth place and Cumbrian Paul Coward rounded up the podium places.

Chris Brown

In the Roberts Plant Engineering Vets Over 50 class Chris Brown dominated the weekend with four wins from five starts and easily claimed the title but a second race 22nd place dropped him to fourth overall on the weekend. Craig Potter picked up the overall on his TM being most consistent with 2-4-2-3-2 results. Rob Prosser was runner up just four points adrift and Morton Hannah took the second race victory to help him claim third overall just ahead of new champ Brown in fourth and Rob Lewis finished his year off with a fifth.

Ben Stanley

Enduro ace Jane Daniels came into the final round with a bit of a cushion over nearest rival Nadiya Jones in the Matthew Rudd Photography Ladies category but once the gate dropped it was full steam ahead as she left all her competitors fighting over second. Daniels took all five wins for the overall and the championship winners plate while Jones managed to claim the runner up spot after some good battles with Rosie Rowett who unfortunately had a last race mishap dropping her down the order overall. Rebecca Newman picked up the third place for her weekends efforts on her 125 Yamaha.

Mitchell Meadows

It all tightened up for Ben Stanley in the Manchester Xtreme Junior Open class as after a first race runner up he hit some bike issues in race two giving Aiden Carney a sniff at the title with three races to go. The pair battled in race three with a last lap pass deciding the outcome but Stanley kept focused on day two to bring home the championship with 2-5 results. Carney took the overall for the weekend however and is surely the most improved rider in the year while Finley Smith finished runner up overall and with it third in the championship. Wildcard John Cooper took the lower step of the rostrum while Richard Evans lost his third in the championship by just two points with fourth overall.

Paul Minihane on the Sue-Ron electric bike

With 2020 on the horizon the 2019 registered riders have their chance at signing up for next year first and then it opens up to everyone on Monday 4th November.
