Lee lands another Junior victory! British Minibike Champs Round 2 – Race Report and Results

by adminMay 31, 2019

The British Minibike Champs set about round 2 of its series at the fabulous Fatcats Motoparc at the weekend.

There were some new kids on the block in the Kids 50cc class with Luca Tatchell taking the honours, although a race win was to prove beyond his grasp. But racing is all about consistency and he had that in abundance reeling off six great rides. Ollie Truman was another new name to the roster and with 5 moto victories, he was just three points off Tatchell at the end of the weekend, with a race three DNF being to his detriment. Cohen Jagielski rounded out the top three and was another new name to the series.  Ethan Georgiou has the title in his sights and with another strong fourth place he leads the series by two points going into round 3.  Mason Flynn sits just two points behind Georgiou in the table with a solid 5th place at Fatcats.

Max Pridmore was never out of the top three in the Kids 65cc group and this meant he claimed a fantastic overall victory and puts him clearly in the lead of the championship. Logan Gardner would improve as the weekend went on, pulling out an awesome race win in the final moto to give him second overall. Tyler Griffiths made sure of good finishes in each moto to land the third spot on the podium.

In the Youth Junior class, Harry Lee rode a blinder claiming all six race victories to add to his six from Champs Parc, meaning he is 12 from 12 so far this season. Harris Goddard pulled off a great second overall from Ben Johnstone in third with these two battling over the number 2 position in the standings.

The Youth Senior group has come to life this year and so has Harry Streeter who powered to 5 wins from 6 and the overall. Michael Scriven made an impressive MBC appearance and was the only rider to defeat Streeter, getting the better of his rival in moto 5 for second overall.  The emergence of the Junior title winning Leo Vowles in the Senior class has begun and he made his first top three appearance this year with six solid rides. Jake Speller was hindered by a poor third race but fourth overall keeps him in the title hunt.

After missing round 1, Pat Crump returned to the MBC fold by marking his return with the Masters victory. Matt Chamberlain continued to be in the mix and with second spot he now leads the series 12 points ahead of Jason Gardner who put in a good shift for third. Reigning champ Lee Mitchell didn’t have the best of weekends in fifth, but we know that this guy can shift and with only 30 points in it between him and the series leader Chamberlain, don’t rule him out of a late push for the title.

Chris Rose is pure class in the Vets and can mix it with the best the 160 class can throw at him which has given him a commanding lead at the head of the field in the series, with another dominant win at Fatcats. Phil Thomas has emerged as Rose’s main challenger with his second runner up spot of the series. Jay Taylor will be happy with the Bronze medal from the weekend and will be looking to build on that and move up a position on the podium in future rounds.

Oscar Stearn was in no mood to relinquish points in the 110 Super Stock class and blasted to a maximum. Simon Crowther opened his account with two wins in the Stock Mod category but Simon Vowles fought back with 4 solid wins to take the overall from Crother with Jake Speller in third.

Kevin Llamas is looking the real deal in the stacked 160 class, notching up 4 heat wins and the final victory for good measure. Dom Forman proved though he has the speed on the Frenchman and netted a complete set of 6 heat wins over the weekend, two of which were over Llamas. When it came down to the final though Llamas gained back control giving him a three point swing from the weekend and 39 in the championship standings. As predicted Daniel Fisher has stepped up his game since his excellent World Champs second and pitched in with two heat wins and third in the final. Ewan Goddard has come of age, and with second in all 6 heats and fourth in the final he amassed a good haul of points. Blaine Blackwell with two heat victories and fifth in the final keeps his title hopes alive but he will be hoping for a podium in round three. Ash Gorman and Dave Lamb were others who took the chequers in the heats and would go onto finish sixth and seventh in the final respectively.

The series now heads back to Champs Parc for round 3 of the championships on the 22nd and 23rd June. For more info on the Minibike Champs head to http://www.minibikechamps.com
