Lamberhurst new layout is a hit…Rutastic day for all! East Kent SSC Fun day – Race Report and Results

by adminMarch 29, 2019

East Kent SSC were pleased to welcome over 175 riders to participate at their trophy event last Sunday.  Despite the weather stopping play at the week before’s scheduled championship round, a last minute decision to run a trophy event on Sunday by the committee was a success.

East Kent SSC’s track team had spent some time over the winter months to make amendments to one of the club’s track’s Lamberhurst and were over the moon with the positive feedback by all.  The ground was perfectly moist with some huge ruts, some of the biggest we’ve seen at the track, and it’s fair to say this meant for some amazing racing across all groups.

First to take to the start line were our youth open group, with many members moving up from Big Wheels last season.  With a great number of mixed 125/250 riders on the line, they all seemed eager for a three-race battle over the day.  Cameron Hayward aboard his Yam 250 started the day in style with a great holeshot, but it was Jake Swann that went on to achieve victory over all three Youth 250 motos with lap times not that far off our expert adult riders.  A great battle behind him for Hayward, and the Warren brothers Connor and Jason brought some top notch racing to the circuit.  Top 3 spots overall went to Swann, Hayward and Connor Warren.  The 125’s were screaming around the track, with some fantastic racing, in the mix with the 250s.  Luke Blake took the overall for the 125’s with some superb riding, behind him Jack Anderson and Louis Budgen completing the top 3 spots respectively with some brilliant moto’s.  There were great battles right down the field and one of our favourite groups to watch.

Our EK1 group (Adult faster open)  took to the line next which we combined with Vets on the day.  It was great to see the return of Steve Bixby to EKSSC who proved he still had it. Bixby went on to achieve three well-deserved wins, very closely followed home, with a few challenges in the mix by member Ben Lambert-Williams aboard his Kawasaki 450.  These two brought style and experience to the track and were great to watch.  Final spot on the podium was by holeshotter #222 George Purchase who went on to have a fabulous day of racing.  A little mention to girl rider Marni Saunders who held her own in this group and went on to achieve fabulous results and showing some girl power! The Vets group, new to the club for 2019 is proving very popular, with Joe Sasse showing age is just a number being the first Vet home in race 1.  With a great line up, it was Sasse to take the overall, followed by Jay Shaw in the runner up spot and Rob Gibbs taking the final Podium spot.

The under 35’s group were in hot pursuit, again, another new group to the club for 2019.  These guys and girls brought us delight and battles over the course of the day.   It was Adam Taylor, Danny Hill and Joe Horton to fill the top three overalls all battling up front.  What a great group to be a part of with mixed abilities.  I can see this group being one to watch this season.

Big Wheels may have been thin on the ground with numbers, but it was all battles up front between visitor Boston Gilbert and EK rider Josh Bassett.  Both eager for the win it was Bassett to take the glory with a superb effort and great results reflected upon his passion to win.  Freddie Taylor-Rye showed great speed having taken a break over the winter but proved he is one to watch this season.  Boston had to miss the final moto so the overalls went to Bassett, Taylor-Rye and new member Harley Mower took the third spot.  Bike troubles meant Owen Wildish-Conway made a battle from the back of the pack, but his efforts were outstanding.

Small Wheels were dominated by Alfie Walton who raced ahead of the pack to take all three moto wins.  2nd overall went to visitor Kit Szabo who has shown great progress over the winter months and earned a well deserved overall position. The final podium spot was taken by Jack Hollamby aboard his white KTM machine.

Noah Eastwood showed style and smoothness in his racing and went on to take all three easy wins in the 65cc group.  Archy Atkinson made a great effort over the day and went on to achieve a 2nd place overall, it was great to see.  Filling the last podium spot was Marley Ray Tupper having one of his best overalls to date – keep it up boys.

Well, what can we say about the autos… Thirty-eight pairs of little legs took to the gate to battle the massive ruts formed from a glorious days racing.  Tyler Rogers was untouchable over the three races taking a well-deserved glory day.  The battle was on with the little machines, but it was Charlie Ward to take 2nd overall with 3rd place going to Ned Jones (joint points with 4th place Ryan Clift).  Hats off to all the boys and girls in this group as the track really was tough going for the little warriors.  Each of them going home with a massive smile and trophy in hand, it’s fair to say they were all well deserved.  With many riders having completed their first ever race day it was smiles all round for both the riders and parents of this group.

With many thanks to all in attendance and a huge well done to all our marshals, medics, committee and new timing team.  We would like to say a massive get well soon to Mersadez Holloway and David Bowden who unfortunately sustained injuries at this event.

Bring on the championship round at Mildenhall this Sunday – see you there.
