Jubilant Johnston! West Cumbria MXC Club Championships Rounds 2 & 3 – Race Report and Results

Rounds 2 and 3 of the West Cumbria club championship were held under bright sunshine at the fantastic Dean Moor circuit in the hills of Cumbria.

As always the first riders to hit the track were the Auto riders and Jude Richards took the overall win on day one with two wins and a second ahead of Oscar Gilham who took home second and race one winner Connor Thompson finished the day third overall.

In the Junior 65 category, it was 2018 Auto champion Finley Easton who took a maximum haul of points and the first place trophy after fending off Ashton Crossley all day. Crossley took the runner up spot with Harry Cartmel finishing third.

It was Liam Johnston that took the honours in the Small Wheel 85 class as two wins and a second were enough for the victory. Thomas Carruthers took the race one spoils but a seventh in race two gave Johnston the comfortable gap and so had to settle for second. Jacob Hayes took home third.

Robbie Park dominated the Big Wheel 85 class on his Husqvarna ahead of fellow rookie Bobby Jak Ennis. Samuel Carruthers stood on the lower step of the rostrum.

In the Youth Open category, Adam Slavin was the eventual overall winner with a 2-1-1 scorecard from first moto winner Jack Abbott who had to settle for runner up overall. Jake Sharkey took his Yamaha to third overall.

It was Bradley Owens who took maximum points in the Adult C under 30 class but he was pushed all day to the flag by eventual runner up Ryan Metcalfe and series leader Kady Moore as they created close racing in the three races.

In the Over 30 category Graeme Bird fought off the attentions of Steve Riley took the overall by just one point. Riley won the first race but a bad start in the final moto ultimately cost him the win. Stephen Humphries finished up third.

Reigning Adult B champion Andy Craig took his first win of the year by claiming maximum points over rival Kev Brown who took a hat trick of second place finishes. Liam Somerville finished the day third overall.

In the Adult A class it was Apico Husqvarna rider Jamie Law who took the maximum points haul and biggest pay packet ahead of round one winner Graham Riley with Frazer Clark taking home third.

After a grading and dowsing of water, everything was set for another great days racing on Sunday.

Once again the Autos were first up and Jude Richards took three wins from three starts for another overall victory ahead of Taylor Dodd who took second by just two points from Connor Thompson.

Next up were the Junior 65 pilots and it a was a repeat of day one as Finley Easton carried his form from Saturday into Sunday as he claimed another three wins and overall win from Ashton Crossley in second and third place on the podium went to Harry Cartmel.

In the Small Wheel 85 class Liam Johnston kept his 100% overall win streak going as he took another top step on day two. Thomas Carruthers had to settle for second once again with Joe Dakin taking the third position overall.

It was Robbie Park that again showed his domination by taking another three race victories in the Big Wheel 85 class. This time around however it was Grace Richards on the TM that took the runner up spot and Bobby Jak Ennis had to settle for third overall this time around.

Next up in the Youth Open category Adam Slavin took maximum points ahead of KTM pilot Jack Abbott who finished tied on points for the runner up spot with Marcus Cranston.

In the Adult C under 30 class Bradley Owens took another maximum points haul on his way to the overall. Kady Moore is definitely due a win and hasn’t finished off the podium overall all year, had to settle for runner up this time around. George Leech took home third.

In the Over 30 category Dale O’Connor took three wins and maximum points from Saturday winner Graeme Bird. Stephen Humphries took another third place trophy home.

Sam Taylforth took home 4-1-1 results to take the overall honours in the Adult B class from new series leader Kev Brown. Paul Coward enjoying the new KTM took home third.

It was local lad Graham Riley taking the spoils in the Adult A class. Acerbis MX1 rider Andrew Wilson came up to get some practice in for the upcoming national and took the runner up spot and Joe Hodgson finished the day third overall.
