Green as Grass! GW Racing Grasstrack – Race Report and Results
Once again, George Wilby and his team put on a good club Grasstrack under a blazing sun in the far Eastern throngs of the country; Iken was the venue this time around. Several small collections of classes did battle on yet another excellent racing circuit provided by the club- the track had been watered heavily on the run up to the meeting.

Local starlet Charlie Brooks won the 250cc class from another Eastern Centre youngster George Fenner. Dave Mears, on the opposite end of the experience scale, was in convincing form in the 350cc class. These two had a great battle in the handicap race at the end of the day. It was seniority which prevailed as Mears got the better of the youngster in a fantastic race. 500cc winner Stephen Green had to be content with 3rd in what was the race of the day without question. Stephen Green has looked quicker than ever aboard his laydown 500 machine this season and rode well to win the event. Suffolk rider Rhys Wilding, capitalising on Green’s change of attention to the modern class, won the Uprights, with Euro-veteran campaigner Graeme Brown finishing 2nd. Dutchman and regular visitor to the Eastern Centre Bart Uli finished 3rd.
The new GT 140’s class whose origins can be traced to Moped speedway meetings taking place in this region, had a fine collection of riders. Adam Shipp was in devastating form, beating Karl Rushen and Chris Mackett convincingly to take the win. A nice warm up for a return to 250 action for the former British Champion next weekend at Frittenden.
A small collection of youth riders put in some good rides on a track which appeared to suit the youngsters.
Lee Jones teamed up with new passenger for 2018 (to Stef Blyth) Alistair Sutherland for the meeting and duly won the small 1000cc sidecar class.
For the next event held by GW Racing, they revert back to their Gosbeck venue. This meeting is taking place on Saturday 29th September and will be the third event for the club.
