Demon of a Docks Debut for NETT! NETT Quad & Sidecross Championships Rounds 3 & 4 – Race Report and Results

by adminJuly 13, 2019

The NETT Quad Racing club made their debut Preston Docks MX  event on the 29th and 30th June and hosted rounds 3 & 4 of their club championships as well as the ACU (Cromwell Trucks) British Championship Quads & ACU (Proclean) British Sidecarcross Championship.

Scorching conditions and a demanding track made for some difficult riding for competitors and bikes alike. Day one saw Harry Walker cement his position leading the NETT Championship with 2 wins and a 3rd, Ollie Sansom fighting hard for the win in moto 2. Murray Graham kept it consistent with second place in all 3 races – claiming second overall, Michael Brewis holding off Lindsey Duke for overall 3rd.

Adult supports mixed it up with the Over 40s with Alfie Walker and Dylan McKenna moving up from 250s. Some super close racing between the young guns and the old guard produced an overall victory with 2 wins and a 2nd for Jack Young in the Supports, McKenna taking overall 2nd, McHugh 3rd and Alfie Walker 4th. Anthony Barrett took a narrow 1 point win ahead of an ever tenacious Steve Pinder, with DQRs John Robson enduring MX for a change and taking 3rd. Martin Sayer and Richie Cornett racing hard for 4th and 5th respectively.

NETT Sidecars race 1 showed Moulds/ Kirwin putting in a great performance ahead of Grahame/Ide and Wilson/Rowan. Moto 2 followed in the same fashion but Moulds/Kirwin lack of points in race 3 saw Grahame/ Ide take 1st place with Whit/Greensill claiming second and Wilson/Houston 3rd. Overall placings: 1st – Grahame/Ide, 2nd – Wilson/Rowan, 3rd – Wilson/Houston

The 250s/150s class welcomed 4 DQR riders- Chloe Maybury new to MX and giving brother James a run for his money!

Frank Marston emerged the days victor in the 150s ahead of Rory Wood and Louie Holt, with youngest Penrose – Cameron, earning overall first place in the 250std, Louise Meek in 2nd place and Chloe Maybury 3rd.

Maximum points in all 3 races ensured the Round 3 victory for Ethan Best in 250 mod, Johno Robinson-Kirwin chasing hard for second and holding Kieron Coates off to 3rd, James Maybury took 4th.

Smiles all round and an overall first for Josh Talent in the brilliantly raced 250 open class despite Chad Beevers fighting hard as always and disappointment for a flying Lewis Humphries who suffered carburettor issues in moto 3. Chad taking overall 2nd, Jake Best 3rd and Lewis 4th.

50s and 100s took to a tough track but the small bikes persevered providing Malachy Mckenna with a narrow victory over Ella Robe in the 50 mods. Jake Robson, the only competitor in his class able to complete all 3 motos, earned the overall win in the 100std, Reece Kirwin taking 2nd and Amelia Talent 3rd.

The Gibson siblings continued their battle in the 100 geared class – Chloe securing the overall first place ahead of Adam. Ellie Stott completed the list of class winners with the overall 1st in 100 mod, Taylor Hyndman claiming 2nd and Jay Sams 3rd despite a bad tumble in race 3 .

Sunday 30th June and ACU (Cromwell Trucks) British Quad Champs took to the track. Despite the heat of the previous day, bowsering kept the dust to a minimum but still the track provided difficulties and a strong start was essential for the often one-line corners, ensuring some close racing throughout the field.

Moto one saw Daffyd Davies take an early lead but a stub axle issue had him nursing his bike back to the pits. Harry Walker took his first win of the day with Justin Reid taking 2nd and Mark Mclernon 3rd. These 3 riders again took the top 3 places in moto 2 – this time an experienced Justin Reid taking the flag ahead of Walker, Mclernon again 3rd. Race 3 saw Carl Bunce crash out – suffering a reported broken collar bone, a flying Oli Sansom fought his way through to 3rd ahead of Reid, with Mclernon unable to catch Walker who earned his second 1st of the day.
Overall positions: 1st Harry Walker, 2nd Justin Reid, 3rd Mark Mclernon.

ACU (Proclean) British Sidecarcross Champs added to Sunday’s action.

Brown / Chamberlain took the first hole shot and held the lead to the chequered flag. Returning from injury, Brett Wilkinson and passenger Ryan Humphries took 2nd with a strong 3rd place finish from Brown/Millard. Kinge/Gray retired due to mechanical issues leaving Foden/Bijenhof to pick up 4th, Hodges/Graham taking 5th after recovering from a tumble. Despite a strong start and good position, Moulds and Kirwin were forced to retire due to Steve’s back injury. In moto 2, Brown/Chamberlain repeated their race one performance- blasting to another 1st place finish with Brown /Millard pushing through to 2nd. Wilkinson/Humphries – nursing a knee injury, managed to hold onto 3rd from a challenging Kinge/Gray.

Proving the teamwork and experience that has earned them multiple British titles, Brown/Chamberlain again took the hole shot and ran to the flag from the front, Jake Brown kept Dad in his sights and with passenger Joe Millard, finished less than 7 seconds behind in 2nd place. Kinge/Gray took a solid 3rd, followed by Foden/Bijenhof in 4th.
Overall placings: 1st place S Brown / Chamberlain, 2nd place J Brown/Millard, 3rd place Hodges/ Graham

Round 4 for NETT ran Adult supports, Over 40s and a non scoring NETT Championship together.

The Supports showed Alfie Walker back on form, storming to a win in all three motos. Jack Young took overall 2nd and Dylan McKenna 3rd. JJ Readman fought with ongoing mechanical issues to take 4th.

In the Over 40s, Steve Pinder took the overall top spot after a gruelling 3 races, with Martin Sayer claiming 2nd and Richie Cornett 3rd.

After a mad dash home for the spare bike Saturday night, Chad Beevers used it to his advantage and took the win in all 3 races, Josh Talent overall 2nd and Lewis Humphries 3rd.

The first 2 races in the 250/150 Class went off without incident but moto 3 completely split the pack after an 8 bike pile up at the first corner leaving bikes and riders in disarray- Kieron Coates with a broken wrist. Ethan Best took the overall win again in 250mod but by only one point ahead of a hard working Jordan Wright. Cai Evans completed the podium trio.

In 250std, Louise Meek stayed out of trouble to take the overall victory, Cameron Penrose 2nd and Chloe Maybury 3rd. 150s went exactly the same ay as day 1 – 1st place to Frank Marston, 2nd Rory Wood and 3rd Louie Holt.
Despite some track works it was necessary to cut the course for the smaller bikes but despite this there was still some great racing and brave rides. Brooke Bunce joined the 100std on day 2 and took 3 chequered flags for the overall win, Amelia Talent taking 2nd and Reece Kirwin 3rd.

The 50s also followed suit with day one – Malachy McKenna ahead of Ella Robe.

The 100 geared class gave Chloe Gibson take the overall win again but brother Adam took the win in moto 3. Kyle Smith returned to form in 100mod and took the days win against some tough competition. Taylor Hyndman took 2nd and Ellie Stot 3rd. Brave Jay Sams made it back on the bike but was clearly suffering after his injuries Saturday.

A great weekend at Preston Docks MX – a tough track but a fabulous welcome! Staff and NETT Club alike worked together to make sure all riders got their 3 motos.

Roll on the Conner Smith Memorial at Dean Moor, July 20th and 21st – entries now open.
