Dell Boy Sam! Raw Enduro Rock Oil Championship Round 7 – Race Report and Results
The Lancashire hills proved to be one of the most testing events of the Year for RAW Enduro at Rock Oil Round 7. Despite a stunning weather forecast for the whole weekend, at 5am Sunday morning mist and Rain rolled over the hills to make on track conditions very sticky indeed.

John Stanley made the long journey from the South Coast worthwhile as he blitzed the Youth A class in fine style, well prepared for a tough muddy race Stanley kept his Goggles on and clocked up a cool RAW Win. His closest challengers Brandon Burns, Sam Boyd and Bert Boam were all locked in battle for the entire eight lap race. This is how the final top 4 placed at the finished flag. Cristina Palmer was runaway youth B winner, the lass from Scotland was in fine form finishing just ahead of the Stansfield Brothers Hayden and Tobias. James Lindsey was the 65cc Junior winner, whilst Jack Wade was the star of the day completing 6 laps of the Auto Only course ahead of Jake Hannon and Gorgia Lilly Guy. Massive thanks to all parents and helpers, in particular the RAW on track Marshals who proved the New RAW Youth Marshal system is the way forward for future events.
A packed single adult race saw riders from all classes leave the start at one-minute intervals. Sam Winterburn was the man on form in the expert class. As Sam settles into riding his 350 KTM he looked a class act around the greasy Lee Dell venue. Once again the Clubman class was super close with the top 5 riders all on the same lap. James Clark extended his championship lead by taking the win, ahead of Richard Taylor now back riding after a busy summer. Local Off Road Dealer Martin Sandiford enjoyed a ride out with lots of his customers, taking the Elite Vets win despite a comedy high-side whilst passing a lapped rider. Lee Stansfield took the runner up trophy plate home to the family home, with a great second place as he finds his pace coming back from a knee injury.
Damian Smith and Scott Hipwell had a race long tussle in the Sportsman Class, Smith just kept enough pace to keep Hipwell behind him by over a minute gap at the finish line. Will Read was delighted with his third place finish amongst good strong competition. As the season reaches its climax all classes are seeing fierce competition. Sportsman Vets riders were separated by less than 3 minutes in the top 4 places. Mick Robson won the class from a hard charging championship hopeful Andy Kirby in runner up spot. The closest finish of the day went to the Novice class, here Matt Wakefield grabbed a vital win by just 22 seconds from Ben Beesley. Finally the Over 50 class was won by D3 boss Neil Crayston, he managed to hold of Local ace Ian Heyworth, both riders completed 12 laps. Mark Stoneley did his championship no harm at all taking third place and second place championship points away from Round 7.
In challenging conditions riders dug deep to make the best of the tricky conditions. As always the only thing we can’t control is the weather, thankfully Lee Dell ran like clockwork, that is all down to each and every member of staff pulling together to ensure the on track competition was the best.
Once again thank you to all the honest RAW competitors for sticking to the Marked course, during track clear up Wayne Braybrook was super happy to see all the vital Corner posts still in place, this is testament to his course marking and planning skills, but of course it requires the respect of the riders, and for that we say thank you.
Next stop is the coolest event of the year, the Protect My Income 6 hour 2 man relay team enduro on September 29th at Driffield training area, then on October the 13th the Big Final of the Rock Oil Championship will be running at Hapton where championships will be won
