By – Eck, It’s Victory lane for Sean. WOR EVENTS WULFSPORT WINTER ENDURO SERIES ROUND 3 – Race Report and Results

by adminJanuary 7, 2019

WOR Events started 2019 last Sunday as they mean to go on for the rest of the year, By Producing Honest, fun, fair, challenging and quality off road Enduro events. Carrog Isa is a double decade old, classic hare and hounds Venue of Steve Ireland’s and it provided a brilliant Winter track and 4.5 mile per lap, mountain course that challenged every rider that tackled it.

Carrog has a bit of everything including some stunning views over the tops of the Llangollen to Corwen Valley, bogs, climbs, long descents, open mountain fields, tricky single-track wooded sections and a big bumpy moto cross feel to lots of the scramble sections. The riders certainly know they have taken part in an event at this place that’s for sure and the smiling faces and aching bodies welcomed in the new off-road year ahead at WOR.

The event was Round 3 of the WULFSPORT supported winter series and catered for 2 separate races. An early morning 1.5hr Kids race followed by a 2hr, 11 am start, adult race. The planned Quad race for the afternoon was cancelled due to not enough riders booked in to make the race take place.

Sean Eckersley was Top Man on the day, having had a few shaky moments early on and a battle with some of the early Race Expert front runners, it was around the 1 hr mark that the flying Eckersley (KTM) took the lead and never looked back although the two riders running very closely behind kept him very honest indeed. Runner Up Steve Hughes (HUSQ) was only 12 seconds down at the chequered flag and was getting faster as the race went on. A further 28 seconds back was Ryan Shacklady (GASGAS) taking the final place on the overall podium. All 3 riders completed 13 laps at the front. Lincoln Brewster matched the 13 laps and topped the Expert Vets from Darren Skillin on 12 laps.

Chris Neesam from DK Off road was in fine form and stormed to the win in the Top Clubman Group, The “A”’s with a 1 minute and 53 second advantage over Runner Up, Sion Jones. Both Riders mounted on Huskys where on an expert level 13 laps. 3rd spot in Clubman A went to 12 lap rider, Paul Engerlen whom was slightly off his usual pace after too many Christmas mince pies.

Clubman B victory belonged to Carl Thomas from Shrewsbury as he and Sion Hughes where the only two riders to complete 12 laps in the class. Luke Evans was 3rd.

Titus Blackwell made the long journey from Sussex worthwhile as he topped the Over 40 class by literally a front tyre gap. Never before has the computer scoring system had two riders finish on exactly the same time, to the second, but Blackwell and Anthony Foulkes did on Sunday with a hairs breadth getting in between the two in Titus’ favour, both riders and indeed 3rd placed Rob Parry, all completing 11 laps each although Parry was approx. 8 minutes down on the top two in class.

Colin Griffiths led the Over 50’s from start to finish and was eventually 6 and a half minutes ahead of Simon Nutter with both riders on 11 laps each and putting in very determined and gritty rider shifts. Third place was deservedly claimed by Gareth Jones on 10 laps.

Top Sportsman Honours went to Nate Parsons with Ryan Cahill in the Runners Up spot and Hayden Rainford in a sold bronze placing. All 3 did 11 laps and rode superbly with again a special mention for the Youngster Rainford as he continues week in, week out to impress and rise through the rankings.

Annabelle Brewster completed 8 laps to beat Izzy Skillin to the title of best lady rider on the day with Skillin a lap down on 7 laps, both young girls going superb in the challenging conditions especially on the big “killer” hill section that demanded big revs and commitment to crest it.

Novice winner spoils went to Jason Howarth on 11 laps, a result that sees him move straight to the sportsman class for his next event, Well done that man on an instant promotion. Runner Up was Simon Davies with Neil Strong in 3rd place both going well on 10 laps each.

KIDS RACE

Earlier in the day a 9am start saw the Youngsters line up for their 1.5hr race across the mountain on a much smaller but still challenging lap of enduro terrain. WOR plotted a small 1 mile loop on the mountain that was rideable for all the skill levels on show and allow all of them to have a safe and competitive race that was comfortable for all the parents too see and the riders to negotiate, yet still offer plenty of tests and challenges for the riders with some steep off cambers, rocky hill climbs and tricky bumpy whoops…A great learning track for all the youngsters.

Sam Hughes on his 85 KTM once again prove the dude to beat as he shook off the challenge of his rivals in class and overall to complete 47 laps and the win in the 13/14’s from Lewis Taylor and Tom Evans. Taylor Improving with every race and Tom Evans doing brilliantly in his first ever bike race.

Lewis Hurdsman was in great form and blasted to the win in the 11/12’s and also was Hughes main challenger overall. Hurdsman was smooth and quick to 46 laps with Jake Willis in the Runners Up spot and William Graff Baker in 3rd place.

The little 65 cc Yamaha of Will Barnett was out in front as the winner of the 9/10’s and he was trailed in by Aledo wen and Rhys Williams in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Jack Brooks topped the 7/8’s from his mates, the gruesome twosome Twins, Luke and Sonny Ireland as they all enjoyed the circuit and race.

A neat presentation for all classes post-race was well presented and the happy riders collected their awards for their efforts.

Another quality, well organised event was in the bag and the WOR Team now throw full concentration to the amazing Michelin Tough One Extreme Enduro that’s on the way in the next dew weekends..

All things WOR Events can be found on the clubs FACEBOOK pages or the busy website www.worevents.com

Steve Ireland and the WOR team wish as always to send a massive thankyou out to all the folk involved in making the events happen. Land owners, medics, caterers, sponsors but as ever the biggest thankyou goes to the Riders because with out them there would be no events.

Happy new year and WOR hope to see you out there on the tracks in 2019.
