Awesome Ashcroft. Formula Grasstrack Championships Round 9 – Race Report and Results

The 9th round of the 2018 FGA championship took place last Saturday at Whitchurch Mcc’s Malpas venue. A good turn out of rider’s made the most of the autumn sunshine to put on a fantastic show.

Report and Picture by Ross Wharton

The two regulars in the Auto Cadets, Ollie Binns and Harry Fletcher made a step up to the Cadet class, both getting used to their new machines as the day went on. Fletcher edging out Binns in the opening ride. Binns repaid the favour next time out before Fletcher took the third heat. After the break, Binns went unbeaten to take victory in the class. Billy Budd was once again mixed in with the juniors as the sole representative in the cubs. Budd put in some fast starts to finish third in five rides before getting the better of Katie Gordon in the final heat.

The Junior’s saw Championship leader Eli Meadows dominate once again. Taking Maximum points and the junior final. Katie Gordon managed to stick to the back of Meadows to clinch second place whilst 2017 champion Hall held off Gino Casale for 3rd.

Ryan Ashcroft finally found the form which took him to the title in 2017. The man from Tividale only dropping two points in the heats to brother Liam and Martin Adams before going on to take the win in the prestigious Martin Parry Rosebowl trophy.

The Senior A final also decided who took 2nd, 3rd and 4th as there was a three way tie on points between Liam Ashcroft, Glyn Stanton and David Binns. They would go on to finish in that order behind Ryan Ashcroft and Martin Adams in the 5 lap final. Championship leader and champion elect Martin Adams struggled to find his form of this year, managing two wins in his last two heats to accompany a 4th, 3rd and two 2nds..dropping 7 points on the day to finish 5th overall. A fantastic return to the sport for Dave Meredith. After winning his opening two rides he
looked like the one to watch but a mechanical failure in his third ride denied him points. He added a 2nd, 3rd and another win to give him 6th overall. Manchester’s John Higham rode consistently to finish 7th and Mark Furley rounded out the top 8.

The rerun of round 8 will be confirmed for October, this week and a preview will be available.
