Feature Racer Harry Walker takes first ever British Quadcross Championships win!

by adminAugust 9, 2018

One year on from becoming the youngest ever winner of a British Championship moto, at Dean Moor, 19-
year-old Harry Walker went one better on Sunday (August 5th) when he returned to the Cumbrian venue to take his first overall victory in the series.

In a near perfect weekend for the ZIP Yamaha rider he won the Pro class to move back up to third in the Championship points, won the Under 21 Class to go back to the top of the points in that category, and was also awarded the prestigious Connor Smith Memorial Trophy for his performance.

All this comes just one week after Walker tied-up third place in the European Championship at the final round of the series, at Stelpe in Latvia.

To seal his victory at Dean Moor young Walker had to go toe-to-toe with the most experienced man in the field – former British Champion Justin Reid – with only Walker’s better result in the final race being enough the split the pair. Walker’s 2-3-1 score and Reid’s 1-2-3 meant the pair tied the day on 67 points.

After his win Walker said: “I’ve said previously that riding in the European Championship this year has made
me much fitter and quicker and today that has really paid off. I am also very proud to have won the Conner
Smith Memorial trophy. Earlier this year I also won the Conner Smith Memorial meeting staged in Italy and it
means a lot to win them both in the same season.”

“I also have to say well done to my younger brother Alfie who also won his class overall today and also had
to win a last heat decider. It has been a great day all-round for the family and once again we could not have
done it without the fantastic support of all our sponsors and product suppliers.”

The UK domestic scene now takes its traditional summer break but Walker can look forward to plenty of
action on the Continent, including competing in Europe’s most prestigious one-off quad race, the Pont-deVaux
12 Hour at the end of the month. Walker is also celebrating an international call-up after being confirmed
as a member of Great Britain’s three-rider Great team for the Quad Cross of Nations event, which this year
will be staged at Slagelse in Denmark on 22-23rd September.
