On the Edge of the Woods. Edge Offroad Enduro Championship Round 8 – Race Report & Results

The Kids got things underway first on Sunday morning, with a good turn out from across the country. Edge rider Jamie Williams got the holeshot off the Youth line up followed by John Stanley and Cory Cookland. Jamie managed to squeeze a toilet break in on the last lap and still secured the overall win. Jamie quoted “I forgot there was a log on the ground, and I fell off on it! They all overtook me, but by the time I got to the new added section, I was ahead again!” This was ideal bike time for Jamie before he sets off to Sea to Sky at the end of this week, I’m sure everyone will get behind him and be wishing him the best of
luck, and lets hope he keeps us all up to date on Facebook! Lee Walters Offroad rider John Stanley took the Youth B win from Cory Cookland, and Josh Knight was third.
In the Junior class, new to Edge Offroad, Hayden Stansfield got the holeshot, but returning from injury, Edge rider Jak Heaney secured the win from a very happy Hayden and a bruised Harry Walker in third place. A massive Well Done to “Enduro Newbies” Connor Gulbrandsen and Emily Tropman for finishing in fine style on 5 and 6 laps each respectively.
The main race got underway a few minutes late, but with an excellent line up throughout all classes it was well worth the wait. Having received a message early week from Fast Ed saying Jack and Alex would be riding, we ended up with Potman, Cory and Cole Cookland, Harry Yardley, Lee Hattersley and Liam Radcliffe as well, I real good Fast Eddy turnout! This made it a bit more interesting
for MPS Sherco rider Luke Flack – he definitely wasn’t going to be getting bored!
Even after the first lap they were all still like a bunch of scolded cats, and then having to deal with the Novices into the next few laps, certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons! They gradually all settled down once they realised it wasn’t going to be won in the lap scoring area! Luke picked up the pace and got ahead, until a Novice managed to knock him off line and to the ground, which gave Jack the chance to get away and pick up decent speed to go and never look back. American, Alex Teagarden, was right up there initially but had Harry “Potman” Edmondson gaining pace behind him! They had a great battle all race. Josh Bailey meanwhile was having his own battle with Lewis Ellis which went on all race, with Clubman winner Cory Cookland stuck between them and Liam Radcliffe
following up. Jack Eddy eventually taking the win, followed by Luke and then a very happy Potman! Cory Cookland happily took the Clubman win from a gutted Luke Owen! Lee Hattersley took third place and no beating for being in the wrong class this time! Ha!
Having the Experts and Clubman in with the Sportsman and Novice, was going to be interesting to see how it panned out. Nobody ended up having any issues, if anything it gave the slower riders a bit more pace, but it was wide enough for the faster riders to pass respectfully. Will Reid massively surprised himself, completing his first ever Enduro event and taking the Novice class win a lap up on second Steve Butterfield, and then Championship leader Gary Collins in third. Andy Dean took a very secure win in the Over 50 class which has virtually given him the 2017 Championship title. Steve Howes finished in second on the same laps as Andy, and Nigel Fox was over the moon to take third. Andy can’t make
the last two rounds, so its all to play for now – but he’s kindly donating his two entry fees totalling £90 to Jamie Williams Just Giving page for his Sea to Sky journey. A massive thank you Andy! MJMX Owner, Mick Johnson was astounded to take the Sportsman Vets class win, so much so he missed the Presentation! Andrew Brook, who was in the timing system in the wrong class on the day, actually ended up second with Michael Eaton in third all on 11 laps. Ricky Pearson, Sportsman winner, missed out on the extra lap by 2 seconds, but didn’t see the chequered flag and went off and did anther lap anyway! Aiden Ferrell was chuffed with his second place spot , and returning to form Nathan Smith made his first outing on his Beta machine and took third. Rick Tropman was a very happy chap taking the Clubman Vets class win after spending the morning following his daughter Emily around in her first ever Youth event. Rick was a lap up on
second place Danny Clarke, with Andrew Sykes back on form now, taking the third place trophy home with him. Mark Raynor was happy enough to take 20 points back home with him finishing on 12 laps, with Deano Johnson in second.
It was nice to see a good competitive entry for the Ladies class, yet none of our regulars rode! Rosie Rowett won on 12 laps, followed by Kate Smith in second. Kate had a great battle all race with Ellie Cooke, and only ended up beating Ellie by six seconds in the end with Ellie coming on strong towards the end of the race. Rosie has her sights firmly set on riding in the Clubman class all next year, so watch out lads, she’s coming to get you!
Well done to everyone that took part, a big thank you to ALL that helped out over the course of the weekend and this week with everything, these events couldn’t happened without all of us! And a big heal soon/get well soon to the few injured riders. The next event is just under two weeks time, the Edge crew are looking at a few options, and are just waiting confirmation from the landowners at present. All info will go on Facebook and the awesome BRAND NEW WEBSITE, take a look www.edgeoffroad.events – catch you all soon!
