MICHELIN MX NATIONALS MOVES TO PRESTON DOCKS FOR ROUND 1
In a last-minute change of plan, the cream of British MX talent will be taking to the circuit at Preston Docks in Lancashire, for the opening round of the Michelin MX Nationals this weekend, rather than the scheduled Cadders Hill, Lyng.
Today, literally hours before the team were due on site to start track work, MX Nationals organisers Neil and Paul Irwin had to make the tough decision to switch venues. An extreme flooding situation at Cadders Hill has made the venue unusable and they felt the probable risks to land, and the event as a whole, which could have far-reaching repercussions for the sport, outweighed the inconvenience of moving to a different track.
“Riders of all levels want to ride for a championship. With the adverse weather conditionals already throwing a spanner in the works for many, we decided it was better to move to a different location and give them a chance to get out and race, rather than simply cancel,” said Irwin. “A decision still needs to be made as to whether or not we continue with the planned round two at Preston Docks, however, the immediate urgency is to get the first round and the championship underway.”
The ‘Nationals’ offers a whole weekend of entertainment and racing for the entire family. With 26 races over two days, and classes catering for SW/BW 85, MXY1 and 2, MX1 and MX2 Clubman, MX1 and MX2 Expert right through to the Pro MX1 and MX2 ‘Fastest 40’; the stage is set for an action-packed programme of British championship racing at the very top of its game.
Spectator weekend tickets, representing amazing value for the level of racing on offer, are just £12 when bought in advance from www.mxnationals.co.uk or £15 on the gate. Children aged 12 and under go free. Camping is available from Friday onwards for only £10. There’ll be on-site facilities as well as refreshments and trade stands.
