Hoare the Hero at Howell! Edge Offroad Protect My Income Enduro Championships Round 9 – Race Report and Results

by adminSeptember 19, 2018

Edge Offroad’s Protect My Income Championship rolled into the awesome Howell Wood venue at the weekend, hosting Round 9 of the new for 2018 series. Howell Wood is a prime woodland and the Edge crew knew that everyone would be in for a treat once the new track had been bedded in from the Play Day on the Saturday.

The Kids got things underway first thing on Sunday morning, with a good turn out from across the country. Billy Haigh in Youth A got the holeshot, and led from start to finish, Brandon Burns has now certainly got used to his 125cc and took an awesome second place home with him to the North East. Cory Cookland grabbed third spot off Edge rider Alex Leadbetter and Adam James – all three having an awesome battle all race! In the Youth B class John Stanley took the holeshot and the win, with Edge rider Jak Heaney securing second and newcomer Elliot Norton taking third.

Teddy Heaney

The Junior class was always going to be a battle with these third young ones! They’ve been fighting it out all season, but young Derbyshire lad Ailbe Oconnell took an awesome and well deserved win home with him. Very close behind, in fact only 28 seconds, was young RG Racing rider Charlie Page, and followed home shortly afterwards was Connor Gulbrandsen – all three completing nine laps! In the Auto class Juddy Kearford made his debute to Enduro and to Edge, and is certainly one to watch in the future – he took the win on an impressive seven lap tally! Teddy Heaney also made his debute to the Enduro world, and if he’s anything like his brother, he’s also one to be watching! Teddy was over the moon to take second place home! A big well done to all the Youths.

Juddy Kearford

After making a few track alterations to accommodate the Adult event, the main race got underway a few minutes late, but with an healthy line up throughout all classes it was well worth the wait. It took a few laps for everyone to settle down, but once they did it was an awesome event and everybody went away with a smile on their faces!

Harrison Utley

In the Premier and Expert classes, Gav Houson took the holeshot, followed by Will Hoare and then Edge rider Josh Bailey. Gav and Will were having a great battle all day, even though Will fuelled early, he still caught Gav back up within the same lap! In the end Will took the win, and Gav had to settle for second. Josh Bailey took a tumble early on, landing heavily and taking on board a wasp! After having a chew on it, and then dealing with a lack of energy from the sting, he got some pace back after his team mate Joe Deakin pitted him, but not enough to get the lead back. Cole Cookland got away and had a very impressive ride – 12 months previous finishing last in this class at this event, to now taking the winners trophy back home with him just shows how hard this young lad has been training all year! Luke Owen also had an awesome day out, taking the points home that he needs for his Championship and the second place trophy! Third place was taken by a rather swollen lipped Josh Bailey!

Mike Houghton

In the Clubman class Edge rider Dan Leadbetter had an outstanding ride from start to finish, taking the holeshot, to taking the win! Again this just shows how much training Dan has been doing all season! Jacob James took a very healthy second place home with him and Ryan Crayston got his Hawkstone training in, and though he was last off the line, he took third back to Cumbria. In the PM Vets, last minute entry Alex Owen had a two and a half hour solid battle with Anthony Crowe! With only 12 seconds separating them at the finish, Alex just managed to get the win, with Crowey second and RG Racing rider Mark Raynor took third. This was the competition that Alex needed so lets hope next year Mr Crowe rides more to keep Mr Owen on his toes!

Kate Smith 7

In the Sportsman class, Harrison Utley took a well deserved win – riding with tore ligaments in his ankle, but nonetheless taking  all the Championship points he’s needing right now to put pressure on the Championship leader, Nick Manger, who took second on the day, and Tom Simpson also putting the pressure on, took third. In the Sportsman Vets class it was good to see Simon Tate return again to the Edge family; Simon, riding his MJMX Husqvarna, only just took the win from Mick Alderson by 12 seconds! With RG Racing rider John Leith rounding out the podium in third. In the Over 50’s class, Steve Johnson upped his game and took an easy win from Jon Malone in second, and Nigel Fox, knowing he has to just keep his consistency going to take the overall championship, took third back home. In the Ladies class, Kate Smith and Molly Howe had a great battle all day, but Kate got the better of Molly, and having got the holeshot, she led from start to finish and took the win home, two minutes up on Molly in second, and Brook Johnson took third.

Dan Leadbetter 367

In the Novice class, another good battle between the top three. Lee Anderton managed to take the win, even after doing some tree hugging and breaking two ribs! James Wardingley was gutted he ended up with second, but having already won the Championship he can’t be too hard on himself! And Jamie Dinsdale took third, having had an absolutely awesome first year of riding!

Alex Owen 1

A huge Well Done to everyone that took part, especially the ones that were competing in their first ever event! Also a big thank you to all the Marshals, of every kind, that helped out throughout the week leading up to the event and all weekend. See you all on the Play Day and the Finale of the Protect My Income Championship on October 13th and 14th – to get booked in for this please go to www.edgeoffroad.events or text the Event Mobile on 07557 447084.
