Feature Family – The Giles Family – Enduro
“We are a family of four of which three of us race Enduro and the fourth member being the lady of the house organising everything on race days.
My 6 year old Reece raced his first full Enduro season in 2016 with Enduroland finishing 3rd in the auto championship. He had his first bike when he was 2 running stabilizers on his PW50. 2017 will see Reece competing the Full Enduroland Championship again on board his KTM sx50 Big wheel and hopefully venture up to some of Fast Eddy rounds. Finding clubs that cater for the Autos is quite difficult which means some MX practice tracks get visited through the year.
Next Up is the 12 year old in the family Jadyn. He has been riding a bike since he was 5 just for fun and started with a few MX races when on his 65 around the age of 9. He wanted to ride enduro and has done since. After racing a season with enduroland on the 65 and finishing 3rd he moved up to a KTM sx85 Small Wheel to compete the Enduroland Championship in 2016 finishing the season also in 3rd place. At the end of 2016 Jadyn moved onto a KTM sx85 Big Wheel to compete the Enduroland Winter Championship to also finish in 3rd Place. 2017 will see Jadyn compete in the Enduroland Big wheel class and also the Enduroland 3 hour race series (In the same race as his Dad). Jadyn will also be competing in the Youth 1 championship with Chiltern Hills Enduro Club during 2017.
Myself (Kirk) started riding off-road about 9 years ago with Cotswold Enduro Club. Last year I started to complete in Timecard events as well as Hare and Hounds. In 2016 I finished the season off by winning the SEEC Timecard Clubman A class and gaining promotion. The plan for 2017 will be to compete in the Expert class with SEEC Timecards. I’m also planning on following both my boy’s championships which will see me competing in the expert’s category with Chiltern Hills Enduro Club and most likely the Enduroland events. Enduroland have a number of different formats this year so I will be giving these ago in the Elite category (Expert). If I can squeeze some of the Cotswold Enduro Club events in then that would be great but in all fairness I want to allow my boys to race as much as possible so will tag along and race the series they are competing. The highlight for 2017 for me is to get the chance to be on the starting line with Jadyn, when later on in the year we will be racing Endurolands 3 hour Hare and Hounds 3 race series.
The family moto is and always will be ‘never give up’ not the fastest family out there but one that will not give up.”
We look forward to keeping you up to date with the Giles Family and their escapades throughout the season.
