The Fast and Furious. WOR EVENTS NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES Round 7 – Race Report and Results
The National Hare Scrambles for both quads and solos reached the penultimate round last weekend at an amazing Brand-new venue from WOR Events in Ludlow on the rolling Shropshire plains. The track was simply unique and was a 6-mile lap of fast, flowing, adrenaline fuelled fun for the very healthy turn out of riders that attended. All over the country other events where getting battered by the rain but somehow only a few drops fell over the entire weekend at WOR ensuring even more grin factor for the riders and racers as they scratched themselves to check if this new venue was real, it was that well received!

Owain Humphreys and Connor Bolsover (Both CF Racing Husqvarna’s) where on fire and for the entire duration of the 2.5hr race you could separate them with a fine piece of paper, real bar to bar racing was happening. The nature of the track didn’t really allow for riders to pull away and gap other competitors unless they made a mistake in the 3 or 4 technical sections of woodlands and streams etc, so in all the classes at the sharp end there was not much in it at all. Humphreys took the lead after strategic fuel stops had taken place between both him and Bolsover and held onto it for the last few laps, eventually finishing on 15 laps each with a 34 second advantage to Humphreys. The 350 fx 4t OF Owains and the 300 te 2t of Connor both evenly matched. Another CF Racing Husqvarna mounted rider, Steve Hughes, FC250 made it a Husky 1, 2, 3 on the top Expert podium and matched the top two riders score of 15 laps although Hughes was 7 minutes adrift at the end of play. Great racing most definitely.
Kev Freeman on his 300 KTM was also in great form as he chased down the early leaders in the Expert vets, the pair of GASGAS’s ridden by Martin Sandiford and John Shirt Junior, Freeman moved ahead after about 45 minutes and never really looked back securing the win in class and a very solid 5th overall as he completed 14 laps. Runner up spoils went to Martin Sandiford with Lincoln Brewster a solid 3rd spot. Both Sandiford and Brewster having 3 fuel stops emphasising the pace out there. All 3 on 14 laps.
Young Dawson Marriott was out on his brand-new Gas Gas 250 and was revelling in the conditions as he pushed from early doors of the race to eventually take the class win after having wrestled it back from the likes of James Ford and Robert Francom, whom both DNF’d before the end of the race to allow Paul Engerlen and Richard Wozencroft take send and 3rd place respectively come the end of the race battle.
Stacey Greensall had another stonking ride to win the Clubman Vets and also make the title for the year very near to conclusion. The 300 Husqvarna of Greensall really enjoying the speeds and flowing nature of the circuit. Stacey was pushed however by Runner Up Kev Wallace as he matched the 14 laps and was only 10 seconds behind at the end, again close stuff. 3rd Clubman Vet went to Lyndon Connor on 12 laps to his credit.
The Two-Hour race group was topped by Over 50’s rider, Colin Griffiths, another dominant force in this year’s series as he blasted the 350 KTM to a convincing win over Dave Jones and Rob Gregory in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. All 3 finishing on 11 laps each.
Steve Farthing was the man to beat in the Sportsman class as he took a clear 1-minute advantage to win the group, leading from the off to the finish from second placed Mattais Svensson and bronze podium visitor Thomas Lawton all on 11 laps.
The Sportsman Vets class was led from start to Finish by Paul Hughes as he blasted his Husky to 11 laps and 14 seconds winning margin from one of the class front runners in the championship, Anthony Foulkes. Foulkes in turn had just 5 seconds in his favour over 3rd placed James Cooke Thomas. Superb close racing again.
Sion Hughes on his buzzing little 85 Husky was top dog in the small but always competitive Youth class. Hughes was the only rider in class to complete 11 laps. Runner Up was Haydn Tyrer with the ever-improving Hayden Rainford in 3rd.
The Novice group was topped by Adam Bates as he finally got the top step he was looking for. Completing 11 laps Bates held off Runner Up Jake Sheppard by 18 seconds and a further 3 minutes from 3rd placed Dan Griffiths.
As stated earlier the event at this Brand-new venue was so well received and proved once again that Steve Ireland and his WOR team are always out there with their finger on the pulse generating new venues and helping keep the sport fresh and exciting with superb venues to choose from for the WOR riders and racers.
WOR always send out a huge thankyou to the Landowners, the staff, medics, caterers, sponsors and most of all the riders that support the events in their numbers to make them happen. WOR now move next week to Firbank in the Lake District as the NHS series comes to an end at the final round. A double point special on a fully graded and enjoyable fellside circuit that will cater for all riders and welcome new comers and playday riders alike.
