Olly Lawer takes Combe Florey win! Core Off Road Enduro Championships Round 3 – Race Report and Results

by adminJuly 10, 2018

Round 3 of the CORE Off Road Championship & Round 6 of the South West Enduro Championship was held at Combe Florey this weekend, Sunday 8th July.

First away was the Championship class and it was the number 44 of Mark Kirby who took victory in the premiere category. He completed 12 laps of the challenging cross country circuit with all of its stream crossings, banks, woods and open stretches! 2nd place in this class was bike number 2, Tom Merritt, also on 12 laps!

Next away was the expert class and this class sprung a surprise in the shape of Olly Lawer who not only won this category but the event overall! 2nd place went to Beta mounted Anthony Milliar both in class and overall. Number 6 Jacob Young was third in the experts and 3rd overall! A special mention to the fastest man of the day, or should I say boy! Alfie ‘Alfski’ Webb had the fastest lap time of anyone by over 20 seconds but perhaps had some issues along the way as he ended up in 4th once the flag fell! A solid effort nonetheless.

Gary McCoy was the only expert Over 35 to complete 12 laps of the circuit to claim an impressive victory over Jack Twentyman and 3rd love Chris Honeywill.

The Super Vets was definitely the most exhilarating race of the weekend between Simon Thomas and Adrian Heard. These two were knocking handlebars and eating dirt from each other’s back wheels throughout but when they crossed the finish line it was Thomas who took the class victory by less than a second from Heard! 3rd place was Cefyn Games who also rounded out 11 laps!

Clubman E1 was taken by Ricky Good on 11 laps. Your usual top contenders for e1 glory are Frazer Buckingham and Guy Krumins who were your 2nd and 3rd placed riders on the day. It was fortunate to see Frazer on the line after recently getting run over by an Arctic Lorry in his Punto.

In the E2 Clubman category, Phil Chapple took a narrow 4 second victory ahead of 2nd placed rider, Charlie White. Paul Jones got a solid 3rd place under his belt while Stef Jewell was the top lady in the event who came home in 4th.

Clubman E3 had a runaway winner in the shape of Ben Sinclair, a lap ahead of the rest of the E3 field! Tom Rowse came home in 2nd place with 10 laps while Adam Hughes, also on 10 laps, finished 3rd.

Mark Hughes rode a great race to win the Over 40 Clubman category, a lap ahead of the rest of his class. Number 33 Ian Barnett was 2nd while Mark Copeland came home in 3rd!

In the Beginners class, the top 3 completed an impressive 10 laps of the circuit! Number 100 Chris Cusmans took a 5 minute victory at the end of a tough 3 hours though, ahead of Joe Williams and a further 15 seconds behind, Shayne Lanning.

A special mention must go out to event sponsor Dave Thorpe Honda Offroad Centre who have put up some great trophies and prizes for the CORE Offroad Championship and also to DQMX who donated a Dunlop rear tyre to the fastest Clubman laptime in any of the respective classes and that went to Adrian Heard this time around! Congratulations Adrian and thank you DQMX.

The next CORE Event is the awesome Dual Sprint at Lurley on the 29th July! It’s a super exciting format, so get your entries in and check the website for further details.
