No Butts with Edge! Enduro Offroad Enduro Championships Round 7 – Race Report and Results

by adminAugust 7, 2017

Edge Offroad Popular Practise Day and Round Seven took place at a sunny Butts Quarry last weekend. Rain over

Sam Boyd and Bert Boam

night on Friday and then on Saturday night too, made things interesting on track early doors. But with the Edge touch, all riders were treated to a new track that held up absolutely awesome! And yet again the crew were credited by their riders for all the work they had put in yet again. The team at Edge really don’t mess about when it comes to putting in the hard graft, the riders really do love it!

So after a successful practise day, Sunday saw the Youth away first at 9am, with newly signed Edge rider Jamie Williams claiming the holeshot and the chasing pack following this awesome young lad into the first new wooded section. Leading the whole race, Jamie finished two laps up on his nearest rival, taking the Youth A win, Sam Boyd travelled down from the North East and took the Youth B class win, followed 3 minutes later by Junior winner, Bert

Bert Boam

Boam, who grabbed overall third place! Jamie Longden was 2nd in Youth A. This is Jamie’s first year of riding competitively and was brave to tackle both days first after the rainfall! Archie Roberts and Harry Walker had a great battle in the Juniors, with Archie taking 2nd, 5 minutes in front of Harry who had to settle for 3rd. Freddie Oakley loved his first time out with Edge, his smile said it all! Young Charlie Page was happy to finish with a good handful of Championship points after a tumble on the practise day. Well Done to all the kids for taking part.

Straight into the main adult event, riders were lined up ready to go at 11am sharp. With the day running half an hour later than normal due to time restrictions at Butts, this gave everyone

Jamie Longden

a little lie in. A close battle all morning with the top four Sportsman riders which ended up seeing Josh Atkinson taking the win from Championship leader Ricky Pearson, who claimed second spot from Sam Gregory. Sam was over the moon to take third place after battling with his “father in law” Stuart Gordon, all race! Stu keeps coming back out of retirement, and keeps whooping those asses! Sportsman Vets saw Michael Eaton and Andrew Brook ride their first ever Edge event and the team were very happy to see them taking the winners and second place trophy home with them respectively! Jason Atha was chuffed to take the third spot. Nick Barrow surprised himself massively by winning the Novice class, plus being a lap up on second just added that extra touch of happiness. Nick, having never won anything in his life, was gob smacked at the rider

presentation when his name was called as the winner! Chris Davis managed to grab second from Richard Sutcliffe. Chris was five minutes up on Richard – who was also returning after having a break from riding. Andy Dean took a confident win in the Over 50 class from fellow championship contender Geraint Rogers, with Tim Howe making a return and taking a well earned third place. Molly Howe put in a stunning ride in the Ladies class taking the win six minutes up on Birthday Girl Brook Johnson, in second.

After the morning riders presentation, the team got things turned around pronto again and the afternoon lads were out at 1.45pm. Brandon Sharples took the holeshot in the Expert class, it wasn’t long before Joe Deakin was in front and took an easy win on 20 laps, with Brandon only 5 minutes down on Joe finishing on the same lap. Whilst Joe is getting his bike fitness back after not riding for seven years, Brandon also returned from a long break. Lewis Ellis was over the moon to bag his first ever Expert podium

spot, taking third!

Though Lewis maybe classed by some as an MX rider, he’s  actually not ridden MX for a good five years!! Hes turned his hand to the Enduro side in that time, and is loving it! Not only is he good at Cross Country events, he’s also not afraid to try the Extreme events too. He’s got the right mentality for the sport and could just show his worth in the years to come. Expert Vets class was on the low side due to some regulars off riding the British Enduro Championship, but none the less Steve Pattison gave Alex Owen a good run for his money. Though Steve thought he had beaten Alex, having checked all the laptimes from the day, it was consistently clear that Alex won with Steve second and Mark Raynor was happy with his third spot and lump of points for his championship. Clubman Vets saw Andrew

Lewis Ellis

Sykes have a leisurely ride out and took the top spot from Shaun Woffinden. In the Clubman class Kyle Lapper was loving his day out, asking every lap “how long left!” but still managed to take the win a full lap up on second place, which went to local lad Dawson Marriott on his Mansfield Motorcycles KTM, followed less than a minute behind in third ex trials rider Steven Hinds.
