Humphrey Bros incorporated. Wor Events National Hare Scramble Series Round 6 – Race Report and Results

by adminAugust 14, 2017

The Humphreys brothers took on the mighty mountain of WOR Events Clatter venue last weekend in the 6th round of the National Hare Scrambles Enduro series. Younger brother, Gethin was out on the MRS Sherco 250 four stroke and Owain was out for the first time on his CF Racing Huqvarna FX350 4t. There was nothing between the boys all race as they swept across the huge mountain range with ease and very fast pace indeed to complete 11 laps each with the advantage going to Gethin by 44 seconds after Owain had opted to miss a late fuel stop as his brother took a last lap quick splash and dash to complete the race. Owain luckily ran out on the big downhill all the way into the pits, thus finishing the race on empty but in a solid Runners up spot to his Brother. Connor Bolsover on his CF Racing 300 Husqvarna was 8 minutes adrift of the Humphreys boys but took a solid 3rd spot and the final podium place. Kev Freeman on his new KTM 2t took the win in Expert Vets from Neil Parry with a lap advantage and some nice choices of smooth lines out on the mountain. The planned 2.5hr race running to the 3hr mark for the front runners in the Expert pack.

The Race was split into two section due to an incident with an injured rider at the 30 minute mark so after a restart the two event scores where pieced together to make an overall standing which had Ben Haycock as the stand out rider in the Clubman Class. Ben Pushed his Yamaha 2t hard to gain a 50 second advantage over Runner Up in class, Lewis Marshal. 3rd place went to Mr Consistent, Paul Engerlen with all 3 on 9 laps each.

Top Clubman Vet was Stacey Greensall as he managed to hold off a challenge from Wayne Johnstone, whom was back in a competitive ride for the first time in over 3 years. Wayne ran out of fuel on the last lap causing an undeserved DNF. Runner Up spot then went to Martin Walker, keeping his championship points alive and chasing Greensall down to the next round. 3rd Clubman Vet was Lyndon Connor enjoying his move up to the longer race group.

Colin Griffiths was once again the main man in the Over 50’s as he took the group win from Runner Up, Gareth Jones with John Citrine in 3rd spot. All 3 did 7 laps but Griffiths lead was considerable to say the least. 16 minutes on Jones and 26 minutes on Citrine.

Top Sportsman with 7 laps was Mattias Svensson with a minute advantage over Nils Ogden and Thomas Lawton in a solid 3rd place. The top 6 sportsman all completing a very creditable 7 laps each in the allotted 2hr race time that due to the huge lap ended up being more like 2hrs and 2o minutes or more.

Anthony Foulkes has gone well in the Sports Vet group in this series for the duration this year and again he was the man to beat as he made a 3-and-a-half-minute advantage his own over 2nd placed James Cooke Thomas and a further minute over 3rd placed, Paul Cunningham. 7 laps was the target reached by all the top 8 Sports Vets.

Sion Hughes and Hayden Rainford finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the small Youth Class and it was again that man Dan Griffiths that made the Novice class his own with win over Runner Up, Adam Bates by a near 2-minute margin. 3rd placed Novice went to Wayne Brennan gaining his first very well-deserved podium place of the year after being near on a good few occasions. The top 9 novices doing 7 laps.

WOR would like to thank all involved with the running of the race from the land owners for the use of this simply wonderful Enduro venue through to the staff and caterers, medics and of course the riders that make these events possible. WOR’s Race Boss, Steve Ireland, wanted to make some very special thanks for the WOR team and Medics and the Air Ambulance crew that came out to deal with the injured rider. It was very well-orchestrated and each marshal and medic did the team proud especially with the venue being so remote and vast area they were marshalling. WOR wish the rider as best a recovery as possible after a serious back injury was incurred.

The next round of the National Hare Scrambles is on 9/10th September at a brand-new venue in Ludlow, Shrops followed by a back to back weekend on 16/17th September with a double points final round special at Firbank in the Lake District.
