James Dunn continued his mission to show just how effective a two-stroke can be against equal-capacity four-strokes at round eight of the EMX250 championship at the MXGP of Belgium at Lommel last weekend.

After missing out in timed qualification on an automatic transfer to the main races, he booked his place with a clear-cut win in the Last Chance Qualifier.

James didn’t get a great start in the opening moto and took too long to settle into a rhythm which left him a lot to do. Despite a strong finish he missed out on the points in 22nd.

A better start in race two saw him inside the top 20 and after losing a few places early on he again rallied in the closing stages to end the moto 16th for 20th overall.

Bob Buchanan – Team Principal

“James was at his enigmatic best in Lommel – he didn’t go straight through from timed practice and then went out and won the LCQ!

“His races were both split into two phases. Initially he had to find his rhythm while his rivals started faster, then he came on strong and began to work his way through the field.

“This demonstrates what we all know and that’s that he has the speed to run at the front, he just needs to find it earlier in the race.”

James Dunn

“We came into Lommel a bit unprepared but I was looking forward to getting back racing after a few weeks off. In qualifying I finished 21st in my group which put me into the LCQ race which I won.

“In the first moto I had a terrible jump off the start and my first few laps were a bit slow until I settled into a really good pace and came from nearly last to 22nd.

“I got a much better start in moto two. Some early mistakes let me down but I pushed hard in the closing stages and came back to 16th.

“Overall I was pleased with how the weekend went and I’m looking forward to the next round.”
